Wanted to share from another breeder.
Very well said.
Breeding nice birds is hard work, and sometimes the combination doesn't work so then it's back to the drawing board. Make changes and try again.
You can literally hatch hundreds to get one or two that will compete well in the show hall. A good breeder is always working to try to improve the next generation of babies. Not every egg has a champion bird in it. More than likely its the one you dropped on the way to the house 🤣🤣🤣😥

Need TRANSPORT??🚕

I’m making a trip to Virginia from northern Maryland to pick up some birds for myself. To help cover gas I’ve decided to offer transport if anyone needs it. Must be on this route, or able to meet close by. Birds must originate from an NPIP farm and be boxed with appropriate paperwork. Travel date TBD, between Christmas and New Years.

For anyone that’s wanted birds from me, but lived to far away this is your chance!! 🐓 I will be listing everything I have available tonight as I go through birds. I will have hatching eggs, chicks, possibly a couple silkie pairs, and breeder or show quality boys. Stay tunned!😁❤️

What a fantastic show.
This little paint girl showed so well.
She took first place, best variety and 3rd best silkie over all (out of about 96 birds shown) on the first card
Then took first place, best variety and 5th best silkie over all on the second card.
I'm so happy with her. To be selected in the top 5 silkies twice under two different judges just blows my mind.
There were some absolutely gorgeous silkies bred by some fantastic breeders at this show. I'm honored and humbled to say the least.
I enjoyed meeting up with some of our Maryland friends, Marcella and Maria, and meeting some new friends.
I will post how the rest of my birds did once I get everyone taken care of this morning.

Results from the Sussex poultry fanciers show.

Black cockerel, Reserve Variety out of 11 in the black variety.

Black pullet, 4th

White pullet 4th out of about 13 pullets

Two white hens didn't place 😕, big class of whites

Blue pullet 5th

Splash pullet, 4th
Splash pullet, didn't place. Think there were about 6-8 pullets entered

Splash cockerel 1st

Paint pullets, I took 4 girls
They placed 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th out of about 6-8 pullets ( don't remember exact number but know there were 11 paints total)
My first place paint also got Best Variety out of those 11 birds. Really happy about this win 😁
Only 3 birds out of 13 I took didn't make a placing.
Tons of silkie competition.
Overall had a great time
