Ivy Woods is a rural sanctuary for feral cats rescued from the streets of Baltimore City. There are now over 60 cats on the property.

The sanctuary exists primarily due to the generosity of one very hard-working woman. Theresa created this place so that the cats she found on the streets of Baltimore would have a safe place to live and she provided a beautiful piece of farmland near Westminster. We are excited about the future of the Ivy Woods Feline Sanctuary. Our biggest challenges are keeping our kitties in food, clean bedding

and litter. Medical care is very expensive. We are grateful for your donations, well-wishes, support and "likes".

Just like people, cats join cliques simply because they want to have friends who share their interests like eat, sleep, take walks or lounging on the picnic table.

One might often see Alistair, Oliver and Nesbit hang out together at their favorite spot.

The heat is back. Even our kitties know there is not much to do outdoors other than be very very still! Be careful out here today and stay hydrated. Our kitties will be visiting the water bowls throughout the day!

Good morning from Hope! Hope has been an outdoor girl and is not a people person. She is so beautiful and everyone wants to go over and pet her, but Hope is a semi-feral and will run away if you approach her! That’s not stopping her from enjoying her time indoors though. She loves the cozy spots and is getting lots of R&R!

Kitties have not been the biggest fans of the ongoing heat. But with lower humidity today, they are no doubt enjoying themselves a little more! Let’s hope for continued lower humidity, not only for their benefit, but for ours as well! Have a wonderful Sunday fun day!

Happy Sunday morning from Bug! Bug loves to see the volunteers and usually walks over to greet them. Bug frequently follows people around the farm. Here he is watching the feeder distribute the wet food while enjoying the breeze under the hydrangea! May you enjoy your day as much as Bug will enjoy his!

It is with a heavy heart that we have to say goodbye to our wonderful, sweet little Gorby, who crossed the rainbow bridge on July 4.

Gorby had been under ongoing vet care. Several months ago, his kidney numbers were slightly elevated. He seemed to be doing well, but he suddenly declined drastically and very quickly.

Gorby was born on June 29, 2014. He originally came to Ivy Woods from the Carroll County Humane Society as an unadoptable cat – he was just under two years of age and weighed 12 pounds - a beefy boy for sure! Gorby loved living at the sanctuary and was very friendly right from the start. He had his quirks, but he definitely mellowed with the love and attention from the Ivy Woods team! In these days Gorby worked as a greeter at our sanctuary! He would enthusiastically meet any visitors and follow them around the sanctuary proudly showing them around the place that he so dearly loved.

Years ago, one of our caretakers had adopted Gorby and when they moved from Ivy Woods, Gorby went with them. When the caretaker returned in 2023, Gorby returned! He loved living at the sanctuary and was very happy to be back with us and the other kitties. Gorby was a loving and playful cat, indoor only and very sweet and gentle.

Two months ago Gorby and one of his feline friends went to a temporary foster home for a vacation! They were very excited and loved to sample all of the different yummy foods that were around the house. Gorby especially enjoyed sampling from different bowls – he was very excited about that! He also was a cuddle bug and loved to snuggle.

Due to Gorby’s rapid decline we sadly had to say goodbye to him on the Fourth of July. He was surrounded by love and kisses and pets. Gorby is at peace now, and his remains will be returned to Ivy Woods where he will rest in peace. We will always love you, Gorby.

Happy birthday to Annie and Atticus! They are three years old this year and their family has sent us this wonderful update!

While we don’t know their exact birthdate, we know they were born in early July 2021. Eight-ish week old Atticus was being rescued from living in a bush in an apartment complex, but before he would go into the carrier, he went into the bushes and guided his little sister into the carrier with him. Her eyes were crusty and bulging. Even at this early age, Atticus was a good brother, who looked after his sister.

After Annie had to have her eyes removed they went off to foster care so Annie could heal. While we were trying to determine the best home for them, their foster family realized they were in their forever home already.

Their family sends us updates and pictures regularly, and the cats are living their best life! Annie does almost everything that the other cats do. She even chases some of the adult cats up and down the hall and play fights with them. Both Annie and Atticus have the sweetest dispositions. While Annie was very dependent on Atticus at first, she is independent now. But that doesn’t stop Atticus from checking on her a couple of times a day. He wants to make sure he knows where she is and that she is safe - he is still a good brother! Their family looks forward to each and every day with them!

Lovely Little Laundry Lady Luna!!

Luna is so beautiful and also very smart – in this heat she chooses to hang out in the laundry room where it is nice and cool and where there are soft clean blankets everywhere! Luna also considers herself in charge of monitoring the food donations that are coming in as part of our summer food drive!

With the continuing, sweltering heat, our kitties have invented a new game called, “Let’s be a statue”! These semi-ferals who usually run into the woods at the sight of us did not move a muscle this time. 😢☀️🔥

Despite the temperature controlled house, patio room ( I.e. the pink room) and garages, some of the kitties still prefer to be outside. They have plenty of shaded spots and ice water, as well as good food! We don’t know how you feel, but we think a brief cold spell would be great right about now! We hope you all stay safe, cool, and hydrated! ⛄️❄️

Happy first day of summer! We hope you and your families safely enjoy the summer season and all of the activities and vacations it brings!

At Ivy Woods, the start of summer means it is time for our annual summer food drive! We and the kitties are so grateful for your support that has made our prior food drives so successful and bountiful. It is a tremendous help to us as we work tirelessly to keep our shelves stocked with yummy meals.

Big Ed and Little Ed are two brothers at the sanctuary who prefer to stay at another farm down the lane. The family loves them and cares for them, and occasionally we do see the boys at the sanctuary for meals. They’re both very handsome! Here is a picture of Big Ed who paid us a visit this winter.

Mousing in action at Ivy Woods Feline Sanctuary! Two of our semi-ferals were taking turns going after this poor, itty-bitty mouse. Knowing they are skittish around people, I approached them so they would back up. And that gave little mousy the chance to run away and hide. Maybe he’ll be lucky enough to live another day.

Hi everybody! Remember me? It’s Tidbit here, and I’m checking with a spring update. I still love it here and hang out mostly in the Pink room. You can always recognize me by my two crinkled ears. I am the only one here with both ears crinkled, sadly from prior ear hematoma‘s. I am unique indeed! Handsome too!

There are lots of good things happening here. There was a volunteer day last week, and many people showed up to clean and straighten up and work in the garden and more. Of course I had to hide from them because I am afraid of people, but I was watching them from afar!

I hope you’ll come see me and say “hi“ anytime you may happen to be at the sanctuary. Love, Tidbit

🐾 DANCER. 🐾 It’s Dancer’s 2 year anniversary being with Jessica! She has now gotten to the point of shoving her paw in Jessica's mouth if stopped being petted for 5 seconds and head butting a half a dozen times before they go to bed. Her favorite toy is a string from Jessica's hoodie and a ratty toy mouse. She’s an absolute gem ❤ As you can see, Dancer is spoiled with love beyond recognition 😻 Recap: Dancer was a semi-feral cat that lived at Sanctuary's barn. It took 2 weeks and few experienced people to trap her to see the vet. Dancer is very smart and didn't want to be caught. Her back leg had to be amputated though. :( Since then Dancer was adopted by compassinate loving Jessica and they live happily ever after! ❤

Jack wasted no time, finding his best buddy MJ at the farm. He greets MJ with a nice cat hug. Feral cats need love too!

Feral Jack is back home at Ivy Woods ! Jack was brought to Ivy Woods nearly 10 years ago and has been with us ever since. He is feral and not handleable and loves to hang out in the garage area with his buddies. Jack had an ear hematoma and needed a procedure. Afterward he went into foster care to heal, and for some R&R. He enjoyed his time in his large crate, and at night we would hear him softly talking to the other cats in the foster home. Now that his stitches are out, and he is healed, we released him back at Ivy Woods today. He gained one whole pound in foster care, and we have no doubt he will be running it off as he makes his old rounds at the sanctuary. Welcome home Jack!

Our Story

Ivy Woods is a rural sanctuary for feral cats rescued from the streets of Baltimore City and the surrounding suburbs. The sanctuary exists primarily due to the generosity of one very hard-working woman. Theresa created this place so that the cats she found on the streets of Baltimore would have a safe place to live. She provided a beautiful piece of farmland near Westminster. There are now approximately 100 cats thriving on the property. We are excited about the future of the Ivy Woods Feline Sanctuary. Our focus is to continue to provide a home for unadoptable cats, while partnering with area non-profits to find our adoptables loving family homes. Our biggest challenges are keeping our kitties in food, clean bedding and litter. As we take a lot of the hard-luck cases, medical care is very expensive. We are grateful for your donations, well-wishes, support and "likes".

An update: Our dear Theresa is now a volunteer. She still is very actively involved with Ivy Woods Sanctuary, but she chose to semi-retire as Sanctuary Caretaker, and is no longer on our Board of Directors. The new owner of the Ivy Woods Feline Sanctuary is Lana Finn Jacoby. Since Lana has a full time job, we have to rely on the services of live-in Caretakers.

The mission of Ivy Woods Feline Sanctuary remains the same: it is to provide a safe, caring haven for feral, stray and displaced cats for life. Our facility has a large enclosed area with barns and shelters where the cats can roam freely and safely. All cats are neutered/spayed, tested for FIV/FeLV Leukemia, and given shots. Veterinary care is provided to all cats as needed and a care provider/facilities manager lives on site.
