Female kittens reach s*xual maturity anywhere from 3 1/2 to 12 months of age, with the typical range being 5 to 9 months. Male kittens generally reach s*xual maturity at 9 to 12 months. The age at which this occurs is sometimes breed-related: Persians, for instance, tend to go into heat (estrus) at a later age than, say, Siamese, who are known for early.

Start fixing the females, stop the unwanted litters.

Intact males are at greater risk for testicular cancer and prostate disease. Intact females have a higher risk of mammary and uterine cancer and serious uterine infections. Intact females who are allowed to roam will often fight with other females, and they incur the same risk of injury and disease as males. And, of course, having a litter is risky for females, especially if they are still no more than kittens themselves.

Living with an intact cat — male or female — is not an especially pleasant experience. Intact cats of both s*xes are serious about territory, status and s*x. Under the influence of their hormones, they roam and fight (especially males). Thanks to their teeth and claws, they are perfectly capable of maiming or killing one another. Keeping intact cats of the same s*x together or letting intact cats of either s*x roam outdoors is almost a guarantee of frequent and expensive vet bills. They can disappear for days in search of a mate and may come home with bite abscesses and other wounds from fights. They are also more likely to contract and spread diseases, such as feline leukemia virus and feline immunodeficiency virus.

Hey everyone, just wanted to do a big THANK YOU to people who helped with blankets, bedding when I posted a few weeks ago.

Since that time, we have taken in 28 UNWANTED kittens that will be getting fixed soon as well as a couple of mama's that are pregnant. We are super low on supplies, was seeing if anyone would be willing to help?

I have been with a NO-KILL shelter for 8.5 years now. When I moved to the Wausau area, I realized how limited some resources are when dealing with cats, kittens, ferals. After a woman reached out to me about a cat problem where I reside, I and the shelter I work with decided to try and educate, provide a service to fix the cats that we trap, get calls to help with.

I get money is tight for a lot of people, they can't fix the cats or at least the females. If you have that issue message me, see if we can't help you out. So far we have fixed, vetted, and done all shots for 40+ kiddos. And have found homes during that time as well.

Now let me address this upcoming question...
So far THE ONLY ones we find homes for are the ones that we get calls about farmers etc. Or we know are nobody's pets.

I get people to have inside-outside cats are they collared? Have tags? Are the females at least fixed??? With this weather, we are in Wisconsin it's cold!!! The ones that are pregnant and we have a bunch the babies would NOT survive in the cold. It's quite simple to fix the females that will cut the repopulation down!!!

Why is fixing them important???
Simple.......

Spaying and neutering your pets has many benefits, including:
Reduced risk of certain infections and types of cancer
Increased lifespan
Reduction in unwanted behaviors such as marking, spraying, roaming

If we find that some we fix, vet are not adoptable we find colonies or barn areas for them to be safe, warm, and taken care of. We have quite a few right now, a lot coming up.

What I'm looking for is to see if anyone could help with any of the following items for helping us be able to keep saving, helping get the population down so innocent cats don't have to be killed for being a neiucence or inconvenience!!

Hello everyone, We started trapping kiddos in the area that are feral, non feral. We have a rescue that pays for the fixing, vetting and all shots needed. If they are adoptable we find them great forever homes. If not adoptable we find colonies or barn areas for them to be safe, warm and taken care of. We have quite a few right now, alot coming up.
