It’s hard to believe this photo wasn’t taken in a different state, but this ornate box turtle was spotted eating prickly pear cactus here in Wisconsin. Surprisingly, you’re more likely to spot a cactus in the state than an ornate box turtle, which is endangered in Wisconsin. One of their threats is illegal collection for the pet trade.

You can help protect Wisconsin’s native turtles by keeping wild turtles wild and not releasing pet turtles into the wild. If you see suspicious or illegal activity associated with turtles, contact the DNR’s Violation Hotline by calling or texting 1-800-847-9367.

Over the last 7 days we have taken in 59 animals. Kitten season is officially here as well as the hustle and bustle that inevitably comes to us during the summer months. We appreciate your patience whether at the desk, in the waiting rooms or on the phone. A very small crew is doing their very best to meet everyone's needs.

A special thank you to my staff for rolling up their sleeves and putting in long, hard hours. We've got this.

Earlier this week we recieved some large saltwater feather dusters, blue linckia starfish, a sea cucumber, and tons of Halloween hermit crabs for only $9.99. We also brough in tons of assorted LPS and SPS corals if you are looking for cool saltwater invertebrates to add to your tank, all between $10 to $25 frags.
We restocked on colorful neocardinia shrimps too.
This morning we received this beautiful African violets and we are set to recieve another large freshwater fish order later this afternoon.
Other new things include Earthborn dog and cat foods, goat's milk cat treats, and all new toys and treats for small animals, pet birds, and even foraging treats and snacks for your outdoor birds.
We are fully stocked on oriole jelly and feeders, and hummingbird nectar and a huge variety of feeders. We spent the last two days cleaning all our enclosures including the fish tanks and replacing filters. We hope you enjoy shopping our store! More pics and items to come! Always something new at Ace!

We got a saltwater shipment from Quality Marine yesterday! Bristletooth tang, green mandarin dragonet, flag fin angel, blue star damsels, citrinellus butterfly fish, lattice butterfly fish, Dori, stripped blenny, yellow back goatfish, chalk basselet, queen tiger anthias, elegance coral, black torch coral, octopus branch, pink button zoas, moon flower zoa, green tree coral, African red tip sea star, and white flame scallop.

We are getting our weekend started with some new plants! And fish shipment is just arrived (we sre still unpacking it). Always something new and fun at Ace Pet Department.

Well it’s not every day that we see protected species surrendered. This ornate box turtle (and 7 others) was surrendered after being taken from the wild over 30 years ago and kept in captivity ever since.

Ornate box turtles are endangered in the state of Wisconsin and these long-lived turtles are a great example of why we should never take turtles, or any animal, from the wild.

This turtle could have laid up to 240 eggs within the last 30 years and some of those babies would have grown up to lay even more eggs and so on and so on. Imagine the impact that taking 8 of these animals out of the wild made in the population.

In total there were 2 ornate box turtles, 1 three toed, and 5 eastern.

While supplies last we have a small stock of pet food that will be expiring soon that we would like to share with our community members who are in need. New Reptile Pricing!!
Going forward we've decided to reduce prices on our reptiles. Many reasons went into this decision, but the biggest reason is we'd like to offer these deep price cuts in an exchange for your promise- that the extra money saved on the critter goes right back into the lighting, accessories, food, and enclosure for the animal. Money is tighter lately and we understand that animal lovers come from all backgrounds and deserve to have their beloved pet and have extra bulk in the wallet to give them the best life possible.
With these drastically lowered prices we asked that you in return give the reptile all of its proper accessories and food sources to live its best life. You folks trust us to give the animals the best love and care and we would like to extend that in return.
