When I started The Little Pink Shelter back in 2008, my mission was to help shelter dogs win their fight for a second chance at life; as a breast cancer survivor, I knew all too well the sweetness of that victory. Since founding The Little Pink Shelter, I have placed over 3,000+ dogs and puppies into loving homes. The Little Pink Shelter is considered more of a "boutique" rescue, focusing solely o

n making an adoption successful. Working closely with select shelters and rescues in Arkansas where the pet overpopulation continues to be out of control, my colleagues and I are careful to temperament test each dog so we can understand the type of home to which it will be best-suited. Too many wonderful dogs are put down each week because of lack of space, lack of funding and a widespread disregard for spaying/neutering and responsible ownership. The plight of these dogs and the quest to find each one a loving home is what fuels us every day.

Dear Friends and Supporters,

When I founded Little Pink Shelter in January 2008, I could never have imagined the incredible journey that lay ahead. Looking back, I am amazed and deeply touched by the fact that we’ve found loving homes for over 4,000+ dogs.

My guiding principle has always been that I “work” for the dogs. Unlike many rescue groups, I didn’t pre-approve adopters; I believed that every dog deserves a home tailored just for them. This approach meant that, if I’ve placed 4,000+ dogs, I’ve conducted at least 40,000 interviews, seeking the perfect match for each individual dog.

This level of dedication, while fulfilling, has also been exhausting. After 17+ years of living and breathing rescue work around the clock, I’ve decided it’s time to close this chapter of my life. It’s been a challenging decision, but I know it’s the right one for me at this time.

I am profoundly honored to have been entrusted with the care and placement of so many dogs over the years. My gratitude extends to each of my colleagues, and to each of you who opened your hearts and homes to these dogs in need by fostering, adopting, or both.

I began Little Pink Shelter as a breast cancer survivor, aiming to offer dogs a second chance, just as I had been given. What I didn’t anticipate was how much this work would give back to me in the form of love, support and friendships. Throughout this journey, I've had the privilege of watching dogs blossom and families grow. I’ve witnessed single adopters find love and get married, toddlers grow up and head off to college, and teens become adults who then adopted their own dogs. I’ve seen multiple generations of dogs find their way into the same loving families and have experienced the bittersweet loss of friends and beloved pets along the way.

Each of you has made this chapter of my life rich and rewarding, and for that, I am deeply grateful. Although I’m stepping away, my email will remain open, and I will always welcome updates — nothing makes my day more than a recent dog photo!!

As I move on, I encourage you to continue supporting rescue efforts by adopting your next dog, fostering a dog or puppy, educating others about the issues of puppy mills and pet overpopulation, and showing people that stray dogs aren’t bad dogs — they’re just waiting for someone to give them a chance.

Thank you for being a part of this extraordinary journey. Your support has meant more than words can express.

With heartfelt gratitude,
Holly 🐾💕

PS That's Jack in the photo: my heart-dog, the original Arkansas Ambassador, adopted in February '06, the one who started it all.

And what a difference a week makes! Little Girl (now Daisy) went through a big week: surgery to remove her mammary tumor and spay surgery as well. But she never stopped wagging her tail! Today her parents got to finally pick her up and bring her home to meet her new brothers, 2 of whom are LPS alumni! Daisy, it's going to be all sunshine and rainbows from now on! Luke and Victoria, thank you for opening your hearts to her. And Melissa, thank you for all of the TLC you bestowed onto her, as well as your veterinary expertise. Happy Life, Daisy!!

UPDATE:
Wow, just wow.
In under an hour, Little Girl has been found by her angels (with a couple of angels to spare!). Thank you FB community for coming through for this lucky little girl!!

We have a situation here and we’re praying for a miracle.

Who knows what this little girl has been through. We’re calling her Little Girl. The angels definitely watched over her as she wandered around in an inner city neighborhood in CT, trying to survive by herself for who knows how long. A Good Samaritan brought her to our friend, who happens to be a veterinarian, and what we found out was that life hasn’t been very good to this little girl. Though she has made it to about 10 - 12 years old, it’s been by the grace of God, rather than by human care. She was filthy, starving and exhausted, but so very sweet, as though she was hoping that being on her best behavior would prevent someone from dumping her again.

My vet friend found out that she has mammary tumors (most likely benign) and she’s scheduled for surgery on Tuesday. We expect she’ll do just fine.

But then she needs an angel who will take her under their wing forever. Someone who will take her in so that she can recover in the comfort of her own home. Someone who sees in her what we do: a loving girl who has been through living hell and unspeakable neglect, and yet still loves people. A girl who has clearly been pushed away by someone, yet whose favorite place to sit is in anyone’s warm lap. A girl who deserves to get healthy and, for her golden years, experience what a loving home feels like.

Little Girl is about 10 years old (give or take), she weighs about 10 - 12 pounds, and she would love nothing more than a warm lap from which to look adoringly at someone, with those big brown eyes of hers. She is being fostered with other dogs and she’s totally fine. We don’t know how she is with cats. She’s great with all people, but because of her size and fragility, we prefer a home with no young children. We’re not asking an adoption fee. We’re just asking for a happily ever after for Little Girl.

WE NEED A FOSTER OR ADOPTER ASAP. Please email us at [email protected] if you can help.
And please share for her.
Sharing is caring.

Update: ADOPTED!!!

3/2 Bob's adopters backed out on him!!! WHat??!!
Bob had been so patiently waiting for his Meet & Greet tomorrow and the people just backed out. Their loss, I know, but Bob's too.

Bob is a sweet boy who needs a family to belong to. He's great with kids (he thinks he's one of them), with dogs, he's even been with cats! Read more about him at this link:

UPDATE _ ADOPTED!!!
What is going on??? We've got this adorable, handsome, regal, goofy, dorky, Mr. Personality HERE IN CONNECTICUT, and still no applications!! Who's missing out on the chance for an amazing friend??

Bob is just about 15 weeks old, weighs about 21 pounds and is a very healthy boy. What is he? Your guess is as good as mine, but he's listed as a Lab/Vizsla because he seems like a good mix of the two breeds - - busy and family friendly!

Read more about him from our website under Available Dogs.
And please share. Sharing is caring 🐾💕

The old and the new!!
How much fun for me today to see Bloo (adopted in '12) and Maverick, who is getting picked up and going home with his new family tomorrow?!! A bit of a flash of time right before my eyes!

Sometimes a dog comes in to the program and brings with her lasting friendships and other special gifts. Tasha was just about 8 weeks old when Clare Deegan Falcha fell in love with the blur of her tail in Tasha's baby photo. That was all it took. Clare just knew Tasha would be perfect.
Tasha was an "Old Soul" dog: intuitive, highly intelligent, patient and nurturing while still being very playful and silly! So I was thrilled when Clare offered to start fostering puppies. Between Clare and Tasha, what more could a foster puppy want?
Tasha used her innate skills to mentor countless puppies, all of whom Tasha would accept lovingly as her own. Clare would send me videos of the puppies and when Tasha was in the videos by chance, I'd have people asking if Tasha was available for adoption! She was that remarkable!!
Tasha left this world suddenly on Thursday, which has been devastating for everyone who knew her. She is so missed, but I like to believe that she is greeting puppies at the Rainbow Bridge. I know she will welcome them with the same nurturing and unconditional love that she did here, and won't that be lucky for all of them.
We will always miss you Tasha. Thank you for all you did here on Earth, for so many.
You were the best of the best.
