Lewie Update! 🐾

Lewie had his twice-monthly follow-up with his internal medicine vet yesterday. He hasn’t limped in two weeks! His wrist showed no swelling (a big improvement from the last appointment) 🎉.

It’s looking like he had an infection in his joint. He’ll continue getting his twice-monthly antibiotic shots and wrist recheck for another month or so. This is the best his walking has been since this all started. He's also had a good appetite and no fever. I’m hopeful we’ve figured out the root cause and that he’ll keep improving!

As background, back in January, Lewie had a high fever, wasn't eating, and intermittent limping. He went to the vet daily for fluids and evaluation for a week. Extensive bloodwork, xrays, and ultrasound were normal, but he wasn't well. His internal medicine vet suspected either an infection in his wrist joint or immune-mediated arthritis. He’s been treated for both possibilities.

Lewie hasn't jumped on my lap or made biscuits in a week until TONIGHT. We've had 4 days of vet visits. All his bloodwork has been very good in addition to his normal ultrasound, suggesting his organs are healthy. His vets think he's battling a nasty virus or infection. His fever was high this morning, so he stayed at the hospital for a day of iv fluids. He also started a steroid and additional antibiotic to try to calm this fever. He ate well for dinner tonight. Hopefully we have a good morning tomorrow.
