Cross Country Pro Welcome to the facebook home page of Intermediate level event rider, Rebekah Simmons

As a young rider Rebekah competed successfully through the Intermediate two star level aboard two upper level horses, Guinness and Coltrane. She was competitive at three of the most well known 2 stars in the country, Jersey Fresh CCI**, Radnor Hunt CCI**, and the Kentucky Classic CIC**. Rebekah was also part of the Area II CCI* NAYRC silver medal team, as well as winning individual bronze aboard h

er horse, Guinness. Guinness also helped to secure the top placed young rider at the Morven Park CCI*, and completed the Bromont CCI* in Canada. Free and Clear owned by Colleen Hofstetter was also a great partner, with which Rebekah had many top placings at the Preliminary level, and went on to win the Virginia Horse Trials CCI*. Most recently Rebekah has produced 4 horses from their first BN to the preliminary and intermediate level. Lugansk is her current mount that is an 8yo imported from Ukraine and competitive at Intermediate. Her working student position with Karen and David O'Connor started at the age of 15 and provided Rebekah with wonderful opportunities, and a wealth of knowledge in the management and training of such elite athletes. Rebekah has a variety of students from the adult amateur rider wanting to strive towards small competitive goals at the local level, to the very driven young riders and adults that have the desire to move up the levels of eventing and dressage. Along with training and teaching, Rebekah has a few quality horses for
sale at any given time. Please contact Rebekah via private message or phone for further information regarding lessons, training, boarding, and sales.

Hey western PA/Ohio friends!

I’m considering doing some cross country only lessons on weekends as the weather starts to permit. Can also do cross country prep lessons in an arena if desired. (Also super beneficial) Shoot me a message if you’re interested. Would like to get multiple lessons set up at one location so if you have riding friends spread the word!

My mom, Joan L. Simmons was recently interviewed for an article in US Eventing on horsemanship. And WOW is it a great write up!

What’s interesting to me is the students that have taken offense to me trying to teach this side of owning and riding a horse.

Buck Brannaman said something I wrote into my clinic journal and have been mulling over a lot. A clinic attendant asked how many times she would need to correct something that her horse was doing. Buck said “If you are asking that question it means you have already failed at this whole thing! It tells me and the horse you are putting mental limitations on how many times you are willing to correct it. If you find yourself asking “how many times.......” you might as well quit cause it means you aren’t willing to do whatever it takes to turn out a good horse. You have to be willing to do it as many times as the horse is going to do it and nobody knows how much that will be. Do it till it’s fixed.”

I have been finding this quote pop up in my brain in a lot of areas of my life lately. This is one of my favorite parts of riding and training horses. I find SO many areas where this journey is more about me and my character than about a step by step program for the horses. How often do I let my emotions take over and make me ask that question, how many more times will I have to......reassure the horse who spooks.........clean up the kids toys.......wash these dishes.......fold laundry........work thru a disagreement with my husband......correct that behavior in my kid......deal with a difficult go worker.......correct the buddy sour horse........remind the horse to keep out of my space.........fill it in with your own situation.
Learn to recognize when you have set mental limitations and how that self sabotages your progress with frustrated emotions because it isn’t happening in your timeline.
