We had some visitors today!!! All our babies are super friendly and don’t mind being held by strangers at all! Woah guys we had some babies hatch early!!!! Seeing some tuxedos, a couple cinnamon some more wilds and I’m not quite sure about the others yet. As you can see one of our babies was born with what is called a splayed leg. This little guy will be transferred to a shot glass in the incubator to start, forcing him to stand and build some of his leg muscles! I have been able to correct 2 of 3 chicks with splayed legs in the past so wish us luck!

Did you know that button quail are actually serially polyandrous! That means the female button quail will often lay a clutch of eggs incubate for a few days to a week and then leaves to find a new mate! The original mate will then incubate the eggs and raise the young! Here is a young breeding pair with their first hatch of eggs, our silver rooster “Guy” and our wild type hen “Gayle”.
