Hey there folks!

We hope everyone is doing well! We know it’s been a bit since we last posted! Firstly, we’d like to say a great big HAPPY BIRTHDAY to our adoption coordinator Melody today! Anyone that has adopted from us knows Melody, the great work she does and how much she cares about the dogs and the families she matches them with. We are beyond grateful for you, Melody! Happy Birthday - may today and your upcoming year bring you much happiness! xoxo

SDF is as busy as ever continuing to rescue and providing much needed care to the precious pups we’re fortunate enough to be able to help. Timmy, Tessie, Freddy and Lobo are four pups that were adopted on the same day earlier this year. Their sad, homeless days of abandonment are behind them and now they are treasured members of loving families. Here they are photographed when they were adopted earlier this year. They've come a long way from when they were rescued. Happy Tails little loves, we’re so happy for you!

Today’s post is a call out to our wonderful SDF community and beyond. We’ve got 3 female dogs at our rescue that have been waiting and waiting. And waiting. Marissa, Sylvie & Reesie. Marissa (the tan one) is Reesie & Sylvie’s mom. They’ve been with us since Marissa gave birth. All 11 of Reesie & Sylvie’s littermates have been adopted but these two beauties and mom remain. They will be 2 years old this upcoming July 4th (Mom Marissa is estimated to be around 4 years old) Reesie & Sylvie have loving, fun, affectionate, outgoing, playful, tail-wagging personalities who are just yearning for human cuddles and attention. They literally hug you - that's how loving they are. Marissa is more laid back, prefers to be the only animal, but still sweet and affectionate, and like her kids, yearns for that close relationship with a human. Are you able to foster? Might you be interested in adopting? Or can you help by simply spreading the word? We can tell you that each litter mate that has been placed is an amazing, happy dog, with bright, beautiful, loving and playful personalities that have showered their adoptive homes with joy and light. We’re hoping that these beauties won’t have to wait much longer before they, too, can experience the magic of being a loved member of a family who adores them. The pictures don’t do them justice – they’re difficult to photograph with their excited, wiggly bodies 😊. Mooch, who's been quite busy celebrating the holidays with his Mama this year, wishes everyone a happy day today! He wanted to show off some of his latest photos, he's very proud of them and hopes they bring a smile to everyone's face. Mooch was an SDF rescue dog who was adopted to an incredibly loving home about a year and a half ago and has been counting his blessings every day since, and so have we. We can't imagine him being more loved. So happy for you, Mooch, and these pictures have certainly brought a smile to our faces! 🥰

This gorgeous girl, Sheba, a 90 lb Great Pyrenees, lived an isolated, loveless life on a farm until she gave birth to a litter and was no longer wanted. Not only a new Mama but also heartworm positive, we were happy to be able to step in and give her a chance to heal and know real love and security. She was treated successfully for heartworm while under our care and this February was placed into a loving home where she was loved immediately and is considered a treasured member of the family. Sheba is an absolute love through and through. She’s soulfully expressive in the way she looks at you and leans in close to give hugs. With her new dad she likes to banter and play bow showing her playful, happy side. We are grateful every day for all our incredible adopters such as Sheba’s parents, who are part of the team in helping us do what we do – thank you. Wishing Sheba and her new family continued love and happiness. ❤️

Today’s happy update is Percy! Percy, now lovingly known as Buddy – because that’s exactly what he's proven to be to his new parents - the perfect little pal - was rescued from the same hoarding situation as Poppy & Penelope. He was adopted in January and his adoptive parents are so in love with him. They’ve said he is so alert and smart, playful and cuddly, does all his potty business outside and loves to play fetch. In their words they feel they “hit the lottery” with him. They couldn’t be happier with him and we couldn’t be happier for Buddy and his new family. Congratulations, sweet boy, on your new beginning! ❤️

Adopted back in January, sweet bonded pair Poppy & Penelope were rescued from a hoarding situation and are now living their best life together in their new adoptive home. They have been lovingly renamed Cinnamon & Sugar and their adoptive Mom says they have made huge strides in learning to trust and socialize with others while overall just feeling more secure and comfortable as they settle into a routine. When not beside Mom's side or curled up together, Cinnamon's favorite spot is in front of the window where she watches the goings-on of the neighborhood and Sugar's favorite spot is in her fluffy, cozy bed. These girls are precious and it just warms our hearts knowing they are in a great home being doted on and receiving the love they so deserve.💜

Greetings SDF Family & Friends! We hope you are all doing well and enjoying the magnificent scents and sounds of Spring! Since it has been a bit since we last posted, before we move onto our 2024 adoption updates, we wanted to share with you a snapshot of some of our Smiling Dogs whose adoptions we finalized in 2023 but hadn’t posted. We have such incredible adopters and couldn’t be happier for these pooches! 🩷

ADOPTED! Sweet Lola met her family with open paws and she had no idea that in their eyes, she was already the “Queen” of the house and she would be fawned over, pampered and worshipped going forward! Lola’s new family is amazing and our hearts are filled with such warmth knowing how special she is treated 🙏🏻 and perhaps her new raincoat in the pictures is a clear give away! Thank you to Lola’s new family for being so awesome!

Thank Goodness for passionate Groomers! Meet Katie, she owns K-9 Clip N Clean in Wharton, TX and Smiling Dog Farms keeps her busy 1 day a week to bath and groom dogs we have rescued with matted overgrown hair and other immediate hygiene needs. Thank you Katie! Your love and patience for what you do is so obvious every time you come and give our four-legged newbies the makeover they need to begin their new life in rescue!

Hi Melody, not sure you ever look for status updates but we just wanted to let you know how well Sammy (fka: Zane) is doing with us.

He’s the absolute perfect doggo for us. He gets along amazing with our cats, he’s met some dog friends along the way, gets plenty of walks and hikes in the woods and mountains and has discovered a love for swimming in the creeks. I’ve attached some pictures- I’m not sure if you ever give any updates to his former fosters but if you ever do we wanted to let you know how great he’s doing and how loved he is.

ADOPTED! bonded pair Colby and Ladybug are excited to finally meet their new family with lots of wiggles and waddles! Tearful eyes were plentiful when these two characters met their new mom and dad for the first time. They are now completely surrounded by many at home and fawned over entirely. As we said, we had an amazing weekend and are so thankful to have found two amazing homes for our babies! 😘😘🥳

ADOPTED! We had some some amazing adoptions this weekend! Two sets of bonded pairs went to their forever homes! Meet bonded Leonard and Luna reclaiming each other at transport and meeting their amazing family for the first time! It was truly love at first sight for all 🥰. We couldn’t be more excited for these two fur-babies going into an exceptionally loving home that we always dreamed of for them. As you can see from the pictures they have settled right into the routine and are without a doubt, content. 😍🙏🏻🌷

Alumni Sullivan joined his mom at a brewery the other day to hang out with her friends and their pup companions for awhile! Sullivan is the sweetest boy and incredibly captivating to all around him, hard to imagine he once was a homeless stray.
Many commented on how perfect he is while they watched him work the room, visiting with all the other dogs, adults and little kids! Of course, he ordered a PUP CUP because that’s what doggies do at a brewery with friends. You rock Sullivan!

Alumni Mason also LOVES the water and did some vacationing up in Maine and New York with his parents. Living in NC, Mason is a wonderful travel buddy and joins his parents on many trips up and down the east coast!

Big HAPPY BIRTHDAY to DOUG at Smiling Dog Farms! ❤️🐶! Both us humans, and dogs, rely on you every day as our rescues kennel manager and your ability to keep the daily functions running smoothly, oversee every dog and it’s needs, take care of the vet appointments, get dogs heading to their forever home bathed and on their way, the list is endless. Most of all we value all of your hands on and love that you show the dogs each and every day and provide us with valuable information about them. Your heart is huge and it shows and we appreciate you! We also know the dogs LOVE you - we see it everyday with your interactions with them. We hope you have a wonderful day!

Today is Alumni Bodhi’s one year Gotcha Day!! 🤍💙! Bodhi is blind but that has not stopped him from winning the hearts of everyone he meets. His mom and dad really turned his life around for him. Bodhi is now a registered therapy dog and participates in visiting others in need of comfort and understanding. As you will see from these pictures he loves attention as well as resting whenever and wherever he sees fit lol. Yes, that is Bodhi taking a nap in the middle of doggie play time at day care🤣

Happy 4th of July weekend! Update on SDF almuni (formerly Birdie) now Lady Phoenix. She is living her absolute best life. Adopted back in January, she has become the light of her new family's life. She is super spoiled and they love her sooo much. Happy tails gorgeous girl! ❤️🐾

Sweet alumni Violet just had her first boat ride today! She is such a gentle, special girl and was adopted by a wonderul couple that loves her beyond belief and honestly spoils her 24/7 without shame. She deserves it! She was originally found dumped in a park, trapped by animal control and thrown into a kill shelter. With just seconds away from loosing her life, Angels from Melrose Park pulled her out, and SDF committed to taking her. The other picture is of Violet graduating her training class! 💃🐶❤️

Adopted! Sweet Simon met his new mom and dad and it was love at first sight for all.❤️ A recent update from his mom “Hi! Things are going amazing!! He is genuinely the best boy. He listens so well, is a great walker, has gotten along with other dogs. His temperament is so calm around new people, fun and playful at home. We are considering therapy dog training because he just enjoys people so much!”

Alfie and Zev have been ADOPTED! ❤️ These two adorable sweet boys have been blessed with being adopted by the most amazing couple we could ever dream of finding for them! The love and compassion their Dad’s shower them with is beautiful to watch and we are forever grateful for this solid union to have occurred. Happy Lives to all 4 of them! 🐶😍
