Where are foxtails a.k.a. grass awns found?
They are most often found in these places:
Hiking Trails
Parks
Flatlands
Meadows
Open grassy fields
While they are less common in urban areas, they can still be found in areas where the grass is allowed to grow uncontrolled.
Shaped like the tail of a fox, the tip has seeds arranged in spikey clusters with backwards-facing barbs which allow for one-way burrowing. This is bad news for the dogs!
Early removal of the foxtail is important. If you live in a foxtail prone area or go to any of the places listed above ALWAYS check your dog's stomach, legs and feet after. Call us if you think your pet has a foxtail and we would be happy to help.
