Cheers to Pretzel, a true hero! ❤️🐾

Pretzel, a 4-year-old Husky from our Loveland donation site at Four Seasons Veterinary Specialists, has been a dedicated blood donor for the past 2 years. When he’s not saving lives, you can find him wrestling with his sister, perfecting his 5 PM zoomies, or digging impressive backyard craters. 🐶💨

During his hero career, Pretzel donated 13 units of blood, saving 23 lives! His contributions have made a world of difference for so many patients, and we are beyond grateful for his time, dedication, and tail wags.

Thank you, Pretzel—you’re a true lifesaver! We’ll miss you, buddy! ❤️

❤️ In light of Galentine's Day we are featuring Karabee! ❤️

She is a 15 yr old dachshund, came in to see one of her favorite technicians, Stasia, and the rest of the Radiation Oncology team for continuation of care! Karabee was first started seeing us through Internal Medicine with Dr. Pascutti for a urethral mass, where she underwent a procedure to place a urethral stent. She then was internally transferred to our Radiation Oncology team with Dr. Swift for treatment for transitional cell carcinoma. She completed six radiation treatments - like a champ and comes in now for rechecks! We thank her family for allowing us to share her journey. ️

Thank you, JJ and your family, for your love, dedication, and countless contributions. We will miss you so much, sweet girl! ❤️

We’re excited to introduce you to Boris!

Boris is a two-year-old Moscow Watchdog who visited our board-certified surgeon, Dr. Prink, due to lameness in his right front leg, likely caused by biceps tendinitis. The veterinary team performed platelet-rich plasma (PRP) treatment on the affected area while conducting an ultrasound to gain better imaging of the affected area.

What is PRP, you ask?
PRP is a blood component processed to have a higher concentration of platelets. It aims to enhance the body's natural healing by delivering growth factors directly to the injury site. Common conditions this therapy is successful at treating would be Osteoarthritis, soft tissue injuries, even sometimes periodontitis. Typically you see results within the first couple weeks.

Is your dog the right candidate for this treatment?

Recovery Story Alert!
Nala recently visited the surgery department with concerns about a potential cranial cruciate ligament (CCL) injury. After a thorough examination, Dr. Adam Prink, our talented board-certified surgeon, confirmed a partial rupture of her right CCL and noted a possible early partial tear of the left CCL. Nala underwent a tibial plateau leveling osteotomy (TPLO) procedure and has shown incredible progress!
We are thrilled to share that she is at home and recovering beautifully. Though her recovery may take time, the most uplifting news is that Nala is pain-free and receiving plenty of love at home. Her joy is a powerful reminder of resilience and the bond we share with our beloved pets.
We cherish the happy updates from our amazing clients! Thank you for trusting us with Nala's care.

Cheers to Winnie, a true hero! ❤️🐾

Winnie became part of our blood donor family in 2021, alongside her amazing pups—Scout, LJ, and Lulu. Every morning, she and her son, Scout, would sprint alongside an ATV through the stunning Colorado mountains, keeping her in peak shape! 🌄🐕

Over her 3-year career, Winnie donated 11 units of blood, saving 21 lives! 🩸💙 Her dedication and spirit have made a lasting impact, and we couldn’t be more grateful.

THANK YOU to Winnie and her family for their time, love, and commitment. Your generosity has given so many pets a second chance at life! 🐶❤️

Curious about spaying or neutering your pet?
Meet the adorable Miss Paisley!

She visited Dr. Adducci in our General Practice department for her spay surgery.
Spaying and neutering your pets comes with fantastic health and behavioral benefits. For example: spaying your female pets helps prevent serious issues like uterine infections and breast cancer, where neutering our male pets eliminates the risk of testicular cancer and can prevent prostate problems. Behaviorally, both spaying and neutering offer several benefits such as reducing frustrating mating behaviors, roaming the neighborhood, and even marking!

Talk to your veterinarian about the benefits and risks of spaying and neutering so you can make an informed decision. It’s all about keeping our furry friends healthy and happy!

Everyone please meet Bud! Bud visited us for his dental cleaning with the general practice department! Taking care of your pet’s oral health is so important, as skipping dental care can lead to discomfort and even serious health issues like heart disease. Bacteria from infected gums can travel through the body and affect vital organs like the liver and kidneys, so regular dental hygiene is essential for your furry friend's overall well-being and happiness.
It’s wonderful to see that his dental radiographs passed with flying colors! Most dental issues in our furry friends often remain hidden beneath the gum line, so it's important to ensure your pet receives dental radiographs during their cleaning.

We’re thrilled to share that Bud left with sparkling clean teeth, and his mom is delighted with his fresh breath!

HAPPY RETIREMENT to this handsome, mischievous hero! 🎉🥕
Mr. Ren began his journey as a lifesaving blood donor in July 2019. Through the challenges of COVID and beyond, he continued to give selflessly—always excited to visit the blood bank, especially once his mom started working at Wheat Ridge!

Over his incredible 5-year career, Ren donated 24 units of blood, saving 47 lives. 💙🐾 To celebrate his well-earned retirement, his mom threw him the ultimate carrot party—his favorite treat! 🥕🎈

A heartfelt THANK YOU to Ren and his family for their dedication, love, and commitment. Because of you, countless lives were saved. Enjoy retirement, sweet Ren! ❤️🐶

Say hello to the adorable Nyla! 🐾 This sweet girl recently visited our surgery department for a portosystemic shunt (try saying that three times fast!). Nyla was born with an extra blood vessel in her adrenal system that bypassed her liver. Her surgery removed this vessel to ensure her adrenal system functions appropriately.

Because this was such a complex procedure, Miss Nyla stayed with us for a few days so we could carefully monitor her recovery. We're happy to report she did wonderfully and is on the road to feeling her best! We can't wait to see her at her next recheck. Way to go, Nyla! 💕

Meet Jackson, a handsome 5-year-old Labrador Retriever who recently visited Dr. Schmidt after being referred by another hospital. Jackson was experiencing limping and pain episodes, so our Neurology team stepped in to help. An MRI revealed a mild compression near his spinal cord at the C6-7 disc space due to intervertebral disc herniation and nerve root compression.

Instead of surgery, Jackson’s care plan included rest, medication, and physical therapy—and it’s paying off! At his recent check-up with Dr. Schmidt, Jackson was all smiles and looked great on the exam! He’s now been cleared to slowly ease back into activity with some leashed walks.

We’re proud of Jackson’s progress and grateful to his loving family for trusting us with his care. Keep up the amazing recovery, Jackson! 🐾💙

Our Story

COVID-19 UPDATE: Wheat Ridge Animal Hospital remains open to handle any of your emergency needs. To support this effort, we have adopted a curbside concierge service in our parking lot. We will greet clients outside to capture information about your pet's clinical needs at a physical distance and/or by phone. Once we have your pet registered, you may either remain in their car or leave and return later to pick up your pet. Part of the community since 1955. We started as a general practice and have grown to a unique hospital which combines the general practice, a specialty referral practice and a 24-hour emergency and critical care practice. Our clients rely on our dedicated team to provide excellent care for our patients, and first-class customer service to pet owners and their primary care veterinarians. We are very excited to be recognized as a 50-year member in 2013.
