We have some good news for the kiddos!! 🧑‍🎄🦌

Sunday night our on-call staff interrupted another yearly inspection for our “Santa’s E.L.V.E.S.” (Emergency Landing and Veterinary Expert System) certification. We passed! We received the email from Santa on Monday morning!

If the reindeer have any health concerns while flying through the Wheaton area on Christmas Eve, we are on call again and will ensure that they receive whatever care they need to continue their travels.

We also received their Certificate Of Veterinary Inspection. Just like your pets, Santa's reindeer need to be examined and issued health certificates in order to travel across international borders. AVMA President and Santa's official veterinarian Dr. Michael Bailey gave all the reindeer full "Ready to Fly" status, so be prepared to hear on your roof, "the prancing and pawing of each little hoof!”

Morning! It's currently warmed up to a windchill of -14 🥶🥶❄️

A few reminders that cold weather can be dangerous for our furry family members.

A pet’s cold tolerance will vary based on their coat, body fat, activity level, and health so adjust accordingly.

They can experience frostbite on their paws, ears or tail and also suffer from hypothermia. Symptoms of hypothermia include excessive shivering, weakness, inaudible heartbeat, trouble breathing or looking for places to burrow, depending on severity.

Since outside time will be limited, find mentally stimulating indoor activities such as hide and seek, stuffing kongs, hiding treats around the house, snuffle mat or other creative ways for them to search for their food.
