It's almost here....... ๐Ÿ˜จ๐ŸŽ‡๐ŸŽ†

The scariest day of the year for pets is fast approaching. While the best opportunities (counter conditioning and desensitization) to help your pet cope with the fireworks have long passed, below are a few tips to help prep you and your pet.

We will be open normal business hours through Thursday, July 3rd. We are closed on the 4th.

๐ŸŽ† July is National Lost Pet Prevention Month ๐Ÿพ

Did you know that 1 in 3 pets will get lost at some point in their lives? And more pets go missing around the 4th of July than any other time of year due to fireworks and other loud celebrations. ๐Ÿ˜ฟ

In many cases, the only reason a family was reunited with their lost pet was because of a microchip.
Dogs with a microchip are 2x more likely to make it back home ๐Ÿถ
Cats are nearly 20x more likely to be reunited with families ๐Ÿˆ

But a microchip is only as helpful as its registration info. If your contact details arenโ€™t current, it may be impossible for someone to reach you if your pet is found.

Not sure where your petโ€™s chip is registered? Use the AAHA Universal Pet Microchip Lookup Tool at www.petmicrochiplookup.org. It shows where the chip is registered and the last time it was updated.

Let's keep our furry friends safe this holiday season!

Hello, it's us again! ๐Ÿ‘‹ Another reminder during this dangerous heat that it's TOO HOT for your dogs to be doing much outside! ๐Ÿฅต

Heat stroke is a very real danger and can happen quickly! Signs of heat stroke include heavy panting, rapid heart rate, weakness, disorientation, excessive drooling and vomiting. If you suspect your pet is suffering from heat related illness, move them to a cool place and GRADUALLY begin cooling with fans and cool (not cold) towels. Call a vet IMMEDIATELY.

๐ŸŽถ "The heat is on..." โ€“ and just in time for the first day of summer! โ˜€๏ธ

A major heat wave is rolling in this weekend and while we expect summer to bring the heat, this oneโ€™s coming in hot! (see what we did there?)

Please remember โ€” itโ€™s NOT safe for pets to be outside in these extreme temps. At an air temperature of 90 degrees, itโ€™s possible for pavement to reach over 140 degrees!๐Ÿ”ฅThis can burn paws. If it is uncomfortable to hold the back of your hand on the asphalt or pavement for 3-5 seconds, then it is too hot for paws! ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿพ Walk your pet in the early morning or well after the sun has gone down.

It's best to leave your pets at home, but should you need to transport your pets, use a blanket to protect them from the heat of leather seats and DON'T leave them unattended in the car!

Signs of heat stroke include heavy panting, rapid heart rate, weakness, disorientation, excessive drooling and vomiting. If you suspect your pet is suffering from heat related illness, move them to a cool place as quickly as possible and GRADUALLY begin cooling with fans and cool (not cold) towels and offer small amounts of water. Never force your pet to drink or dip them in an ice cold bath.

Then โ˜Ž๏ธ us and let us know that your pet is having heat related issues so we can help.

The scariest day of the year for pets is fast approaching!! ๐ŸŽ‡๐ŸŽ†

If your pet gets anxious with loud noises, NOW is the time to talk to us about meds that could help make things a little less stressful. Finding the right dose can take some tweaking, and we want to be sure your pet handles it well before the fireworks start.
Donโ€™t wait until the last minuteโ€”reach out so we can help keep your pet calm and comfy this 4th of July! ๐Ÿพ

๐Ÿป๐Ÿพ This past Saturday, some of our team traded stethoscopes for beer taps and volunteered for a few hours in the beer tent as well as selling drink tickets at the Wheaton Chamber of Commerce Cream of Wheaton Festival! We had an awesome time connecting with the communityโ€”and instead of accepting tips, we collected donations for Cosley Zoo. Thanks to your generosity (and a match from us), we were able to donate $150 to support the animals! ๐Ÿข๐Ÿฆ‰๐ŸฆŠ
Thanks to everyone who stopped by and made it a fun day! ๐Ÿ’™
