Chicken Dumpling looks adorable in his winter booties. Unlike most pups, he is quite confident and unbothered walking in them! Chicken Dumpling is a fun and friendly 8 year old boy we rescued from Chicago Animal Care and Control . He is currently living in a foster home with other dogs. He loves meeting new people and loves playing with his new friends in playgroup! This happy boy will melt your heart and make you smile by greeting you with full body wiggles!

Truman was hired for a new position at the shelter. He delivers love and moral support to all the staff. Thank you Mary for being this little guy's forever foster. ❤️
Guner has been back in our care and in a loving foster home since November. Guner the chihuahua hasn't had a simple life. After living at an animal shelter in Nebraska for the first 8 years of his life, we brought him to Heartland in hopes of finding his forever home. He was in a foster home with his dedicated foster mom and her other dogs, and he finally got adopted by a very loving woman.
Sadly, after 4 years with her, his owner passed away and we were so sad for Guner, who was welcomed right back to his foster home from before he was adopted.
He is 14 years old now, but still the same little guy we love! Guner can be nervous with new people, usually men, and does seem to warm up to females quicker. That doesn't mean a man can't win him over, though, it just may take him more time! He does prefer to be around adults only, because they are generally calmer and more predictable. He can be a nervous little guy. He is a little nervous about being picked up, but when he knows it is time, he hunkers down and allows his foster mom to pick him up, and then enjoys being carried around.
Guner loves other dogs, he lives with a small doxy foster sister, who he cuddles with on the couch! He has met big dogs and did well, too, just sometimes may bark at them. Guner does bark when he's feeling uncomfortable or has something to say, which is kind of often :) But, his bark isn't yappy, it's kind of hoarse, like an old man, and adorable and just makes us love him more. He will be a great "guard dog in the home.
Here is what his foster mom has to say about him, "Guner is a great boy. He is shy and will stay within his crate and pen. When he is put on the couch, he will relax and welcomes pets and belly rubs. He is very happy outside in the yard and will go outside anytime. His biggest joy is to get his harness on and go for walks."

Lucky Charm was relinquished by his previous owner to Chicago Animal Care and Control for being "untrained." Lucky was so scared there in the loud pavilion where he was kept, he was shaking and cowering in the back of his kennel and did not want to come out. When Lucky was outside of his kennel he was a totally normal and happy go lucky pup. Not to mention about as cute a dog as we had ever seen!
We were so glad we had a foster willing to open their home to Lucky.
Lucky has been living with a couple in their Lincoln Park apartment and living his best city life! He is very attached to his foster mom especially. He walks so well on leash, and does not mind city noises. Lucky truly wants to play with and greet every dog he sees, and loves every person who crosses his path. Lucky would absolutely *love* a canine sibling. Lucky is super smart and would love someone who likes to train, as he is very motivated by treats and praise.

✨ Truly Edition ✨
We rescued two year old Truly from Chicago Animal Care and Controlon Friday. Her fur was matted and she had just received a treatment to kill her fleas earlier in the day. The precious girl looked rough when she came to us. Luckily our Medical Manager, Aurora, is quite skilled with clippers and began giving Truly a much needed makeover. Our Adoption Lead, Eric, gave her a bath afterwards. And her foster mom, Izabela, came just in time to comfort her and take her to a warm and calm environment ( her new foster home ) to decompress after such an adventurous day! We are TRULY blessed with an incredible, life saving team and community. 🙏✨

"Get in loser, we're going to CACC." - us, yesterday
We love our trips to Chicago Animal Care and Control as much as mean girls love shopping!! We are so grateful each time we are able to bring a van full of donations to our friends. Besides seeing all the beautiful faces waiting in the many dog pavilions, the saddest is when we walk out empty handed so thank you to wonderful fosters to make sure that we didn't! ❤️
