Our two year old Tiggy is a sweetie! She is housebroken, crate trained, good with kids, and other dogs! Tiggy spent a whole six weeks at Chicago Animal Care and Control before we rescued her and gave her a shot at a second chance!✨

Exactly one week ago we were celebrating all things Heartland at the Golden Paw Gala: Evening of Pawsibilities ! It was a beautiful and successful fundraising event ! Everyone get ready to be excited!! Our time at the "Heartland Hangar" will be remembered forever! We can't thank Signature Aviation and everyone at Chicago Executive Airport for opening their arms, space, and hearts to us!

Sally came from Kentucky with her three siblings and landed in a wonderful foster home! Sally is an outgoing gal! She loves to play with both people and dogs. She is always up for exploring and running around with the other pups!✨

She is still young so she will benefit greatly from puppy socialization classes and an adopter should anticipate working on housebreaking and learning to walk on a leash. Sally recently visited two companies to provide stress relief for their employees AND a retirement community, and she was the belle of the ball! She is social and sweet natured.❤️

Yesterday was New Dog Day!! We had six new arrivals from Texas!! These precious babies took a 20+ hour van ride just so they could become Heartland dogs! All six were picked up by their fosters by the end of the day and probably had the best sleep of their lives! Welcome to Heartland little ones! ❤️

Two year old, Tiggy the piggy might have one of the most beautiful smiles!! 😍 We can't wait for you to fall in love with her!✨

Tiggy spent 6 weeks at Chicago Animal Care and Control before we scooped her up! Tiggy is such a friendly, social, smooshable girl. One of the volunteers that walked her regularly at CACC fell in love with her, especially after seeing how great she was with other dogs in playgroup, and wanted to foster her for us. ( Thank you, Tamara! ❤️ )

Tiggy lives in a foster home with two adults, a teenager, and three other dogs. Tiggy's foster mom reports that Tiggy is both housebroken and crate trained. She shares toys and plays nicely with her other dogs, and reads their cues well.✨

Tiggy looooves people, and lives with a teen, but would do well with smaller children too. She is a big gal and could knock a toddler over, so we think grade school and up may be best given that.✨

Tiggy's foster mom writes, "Tiggy is a dream dog. She can be loving and aloof at the same time. She is so thankful to be out of CACC as she was there for over a month and it still did not break her amazing spirit. She is happy whenever she goes. She does well with other dogs and all people. She is house broken and crate trained. Tiggy makes the silliest pig noises when she's happy or curious and snores when she sleeps. Her nickname is Tiggy the piggy. She is perfection."✨

We first saw Betty at Chicago Animal Care and Control back in late July. It was extremely loud in the pavilion where she was being kept and she was snoozing away like an angel. We took her in shortly after that and she went right into a foster home with a young child and senior dog. They were not able to keep Betty long term, so she has spent the last few months in another wonderful foster home with her foster mom and a cat.

Betty came to us with a condition called hypothyroidism, which had clearly never been treated. It is due to a decrease in thyroid hormone production and can cause lethargy, weight gain, and skin discoloration. When treated with a hormone replacement pill, which is not expensive, it has a great prognosis and rarely causes further complications. Betty has been taking her supplement and after a couple rounds of blood tests, Betty's hypothyroidism is officially controlled and she is now adoptable!

Betty is housebroken on her current routine and enjoys the company of her foster cat sibling! Her favorite thing is getting belly rubs from her foster mom.

Betty, being the adorable chonky chi that she is, is very tempting to reach out and pet right away but Betty needs to be wooed properly first. Her foster mom has grandkids aged 6 and 9 who come over regularly. They gave Betty some turkey (her fave!) the first few times they came over, and now are able to pet Betty without issue. If Betty is not properly introduced she will make her displeasure knows by doing a little chihuahua air-snap (she has never bitten anyone). It is important this little lady's boundaries are respected!

Betty walks great on a leash, occasionally barking at other dogs or people if she is feeling scared. Betty lived with another dog in her first foster home and did well; we think she is comfortable with dogs (and cats, of course) around her size and may bark and feel intimidated by larger dogs. Betty's foster mom has loved having her the past few months. She writes, "Betty is a 10 year old sweetheart with a body of a Corgi and a face of a Chihuahua. She is sweet and loving to her foster mom. Loves to cuddle and get belly rubs. She learns routines quickly and makes it clear what she wants when she needs something."

We hope you will consider giving this very deserving senior a permanent home in which to live out the rest of her years.

Our one year old, Velvet looks like a Sports Illustrated model on her recent adventure to Splash Dog, LLC ! We pulled this beautiful girl from Chicago Animal Care and Control in June. She is friendly with children and other dogs.

Though she is great at playing with all sorts of dogs, we do think she may do best in a home as a solo dog. Velvet is so deserving of a nice soft bed and her own human to curl up with. We hope you will ask about her today, and we are happy to arrange for you to meet her.

Hamilton or Hammy as his friends like to call him is the cutest and smartest boy around! He's been working with our Behavior and Enrichment Manager , Carrie , and now Hammy has learned how to do his own nails!! 💅 Hamilton is about three years old. We pulled him from Chicago Animal Care and Control back in May. He is currently in foster and he asked his foster mom to translate a little about himself! "Hi. I am Hamilton, but I answer to Hammy. When my name is called, I get excited because usually it means something good is in store.... a walk, a treat, a game, a ride. At home I lay on the couch, or my bed, or out on the balcony, and sometimes I go in my crate if I want some privacy - that's usually where I clean myself. Once I get comfortable with my human, I also like to lay on their lap and even roll over, so they pet my belly. I like to get a little all over massage whenever possible. I am curious, so I stop and smell a lot, but I just need some reminders to walk, or as my human says, "watch me", and maybe a treat when I am walking good. I am not much of a barker, so I am really good in an apartment or condo. However - I do not like rain, or sprayed water, or sprinklers. I often avoid going out in the rain so sometimes i have to be coaxed out to do my business. I am a wonderful boy!"
