Are you excited for Boo at the Zoo?😎 Boo at the Zoo is presented by the Wheeling Dairy Queens and Hartley Law Group PLLC.
🌿 Exciting news from Oglebay Good Zoo! Last week, we released over 100 Eastern hellbenders into local streams, returning them to their birthplace as part of a collaborative conservation effort with Williams, West Virginia Division of Natural Resources, West Liberty University and The Wilds.
The Eastern hellbender, North America's largest salamander, has faced significant population declines due to sedimentation from deforestation, disease, and historic misconceptions. For over two decades, we've partnered with the WVDNR on hellbender research, making history in 2007 as the first zoo in the world to successfully hatch Eastern hellbenders in human care.
Together, we're working to protect and restore these incredible creatures! 🌎💧 #Conservation #Wildlife #EasternHellbender #OglebayGoodZoo
A new cotton-top tamarin has joined the family at the Good Zoo! Mother, Virginia, and father, Mateo, welcomed a baby that will join the parents as well as a sister, Remi, and brother, Mingo, in the cotton-top tamarin habitat in the main building of the zoo. You can still see the baby tamarin on either Virginia or Mateo’s back when you come to the zoo. Male cotton-top tamarins are exceptional fathers, carrying the offspring frequently. In fact, Remi and Mingo will also assist with caring for their sibling in a strategy known as alloparenting that will help them develop skills to assist with parenting their own offspring in the future! The zoo cares for cotton-top tamarins as a part of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums’ (AZA) Species Survival Plan.
If you’d like to assist with cotton-top tamarin conservation, you can become a Good Zoo member👉 https://oglebay.com/good-zoo/membership/ , volunteer at the zoo 👉https://oglebay.com/good-zoo/zoo-volunteers, or purchase some of the products from Proyecto Titi (Proyecto Tití: Conserving the Cotton-top Tamarin in Colombia > Home (proyectotiti.com) that are sold in the zoo gift shop!

Mirabel and Pablo aren’t so sure about their Christmas presents! We give the animals “presents” as part of our animal wellbeing program. We aim to ensure that our animals are happy, comfortable, and healthy. One way we do this is by giving them enrichment to encourage natural behaviors like foraging.
Happy Halloween from the Good Zoo! See our scarlet macaw, Skittles jam out to Monster Mash! While Skittles is showing the fun side of parrots it is important to remember that they do not make great pets. Parrots are highly intelligent animals that need a lot of care and attention for upwards of 100 years. They are highly destructive animals that love to scream, making them impossible to have in most homes. Many people are not prepared to give pet parrots the care they need for their whole lives and will rehome them.
Happy Wolrd Lemur Day! Fresca and Magellan are our resident black and white ruffed lemurs at the Good Zoo. Their exhibit is equipped with many platforms, ropes, and fire hose strips to show off their climbing, hanging, and jumping abilities, but they can also be seen resting on the benches or sprawled out in the sunshine. You may even see them utilizing their hands to manipulate food out of puzzle feeders! Black and white ruffed lemurs are only found in Madagascar and are critically endangered due to habitat loss, poaching, climate change, and invasive species.
Its International Red Panda Day! See our Fia enjoy some tasty grapes! Red pandas are endangered due to factors such as poaching and habitat loss. You can help save them by supporting conservation organizations, such as the Good Zoo. We participate in the AZA’s red panda Species Survival Plan and work to maintain a healthy population of the species in human care.
