It’s a powerful sight to behold—10 or more individuals each playing a vital role. Some perform chest compressions while others aid in breathing, administer medications, or establish IV lines. With the clock ticking, each second is meticulously monitored, and every action is intentional. Amid the intensity, there is a profound sense of compassion and purpose. Meet Moose, a 6-year-old MC Staff, who is just the sweetest boy! Recently, he came in after being stung by multiple bees, leading to an allergic reaction. His owner, who is handicapped, required extra assistance during this time, and our team was happy to help by taking care of Moose and ensuring he was safely returned to his owner’s car!

We care immensely about compassion and care at Eclipse!

Happy National Fire Pup Day! Today, we celebrate the amazing canine firefighters who serve alongside our heroes. We’re proud to have helped Goose Hensal, the beloved mascot of the Mount Arlington Fire Department, as he recovers from surgery.

We were delighted to offer aid and support to the department during this time. Goose truly brings joy and camaraderie to the team!

Mumford is a young 4-year-old Bernedoodle who began exhibiting concerning changes in his behavior. He became hesitant to play with other dogs, refused to walk uphill during walks, and struggled with bathroom posture. A thorough examination revealed significant sensitivity in his lower back. An MRI identified a large lumbosacral disc compressing his nerve roots, which was likely causing these clinical signs.

Despite trials of oral medications and epidural steroid injections, Mumford showed minimal improvement. As a result, surgical intervention was necessary to relieve the compression affecting his nerve roots. Given his young age and the dynamic nature of the compression, we also stabilized and fused the lumbosacral joint to prevent future complications.

Using Orthomed’s innovative pedicle screw and rod system, Mumford underwent a dorsal laminectomy to remove the compressive bone on his nerve roots, and his vertebrae were fused with four screws and two titanium rods.

This marked Mumford as the first case in New Jersey to utilize this new technology! Huge shoutout to our amazing team, who completed the first L-S stabilization surgery at, not only Eclipse, but in the state!!

We are pleased to report that Mumford has recovered very well from surgery and is now four weeks post-op, pain-free and extremely comfortable!

Meet Nico! He’s an 8-year-old domestic short hair.

A while back, he was lethargic, vomiting blood, and not eating. When he was brought into Eclipse, he was quickly given cerenia due to vomiting blood, but his bloodwork came back normal. Following that, he was given an ultrasound to find the root of the issue. The ultrasound showed he had an enlarged pancreas and diffuse gastropathy.

He stayed overnight at the hospital with medicine and food, and managed to eat very well and get all the fluids and medications needed to help his gastrointestinal motility and nausea.

He went home the next day, has finished his medication at home in the following two weels, and is now looking better than ever!

September is officially recognized as Su***de Prevention Month, and with World Su***de Prevention Day approaching on September 10th, we have an important opportunity to raise awareness about this critical issue. The veterinary profession faces unique challenges, with studies indicating that veterinarians experience su***de rates significantly higher than the general population. Here at Eclipse Specialty, we take the mental health of our team members seriously and are committed to fostering a supportive environment.

To combat the challenges our colleagues face, we actively promote mental wellness through various initiatives. Our “fun committee” plans engaging activities, team lunches, and events aimed at building connections and reducing isolation. We encourage open conversations about mental health, helping to break down the stigma surrounding these discussions.

Everyone can help further battle the issue by being attentive to their colleagues’ well-being, asking how they are feeling, and listening with compassion. Meet Pippa, a brave little warrior! One day, Pippa was going after a treat when her housemate accidentally bit her head. She acutely developed neurological abnormalities. She was quickly rushed to Eclipse, where Dr. Fefer assessed her and was concerned for a traumatic brain injury. A skull CT showed a large bone fragment that was compressing and embedded within the left side of her brain.

Due to worsening neurological signs, including the development of seizures, Pippa was taken to surgery, where the bone fragment was safely removed and the brain was decompressed. Pippa showed significant improvement the following day, and by 4 weeks after surgery was nearly back to normal, with only a mild, persistent visual deficit. She has now returned to all of her normal daily activities with no restrictions!
