WISCONSIN - Ridglan Farms Agrees to Surrender Wisconsin Dog Breeder License and Stop Selling Beagles
As reported, Ridglan Farms, “America’s second-largest breeder of beagles for scientific research, will surrender its Wisconsin breeding license.” Under an agreement signed by company owners and Wisconsin’s La Crosse County District Attorney, Tim Gruenke, “Ridglan Farms will voluntarily surrender its license to operate as a ‘dog breeder’” and cease to operate as a “dog breeder,” as defined under Wisconsin state law, by July 1, 2026. Until then, Ridglan may sell its remaining beagles, estimated at 3,000. In exchange, the state ended the investigation run by Gruenke, who was appointed as special prosecutor, and it will no longer be able to bring criminal or civil charges against the company in relation to the issues under investigation. The company will retain its U.S. Department of Agriculture licensure. The Dane County Board of Supervisors had passed a resolution calling for revocation of the company’s state license on October 23, 2025, just days before the agreement was signed.
