In this short video, Tim and Duke demonstrate techniques for lowering your horse’s head—an essential skill for haltering, bridling, brushing, and everyday handling. Beyond practicality, this exercise builds softness and helps maintain a calm, connected mental partnership throughout your time working together.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year **tcompany reindeer

There’s a reason life feels a little better
after time spent with a horse.

Not because everything magically fixes itself.
Not because your problems disappear.
But because something inside you
finally slows down enough to breathe.

The world asks so much of us—
to hurry,
to multitask,
to carry weight we don’t always talk about.

And then you step into the barn…
and none of that matters.

The noise fades.
The pressure loosens its grip.
Your shoulders drop without you realizing it.

A horse doesn’t care who you were five minutes ago
or what you still have to do later.
They only care that you’re here.
Present.
Honest.
Real.

There’s something grounding
about the steady rhythm of their breathing,
the warmth of their body beside yours,
the quiet way they exist without needing more.

You brush a mane.
You listen to hooves shift in the aisle.
You feel a soft nose nudge your arm.

And suddenly,
your thoughts untangle themselves.

Time with a horse reminds you
that life doesn’t have to be rushed
to be meaningful.
That peace doesn’t have to be loud
to be powerful.

Horses bring you back
to the simplest version of yourself—
the one who notices small joys,
the one who feels instead of overthinks,
the one who remembers how to just be.

They teach you presence
without ever asking you to try.
They calm your nervous system
without needing explanations.
They offer comfort
just by standing near.

And when you walk away—
whether it’s after a long ride
or a few quiet minutes in the barn—
you carry that calm with you.

You speak a little softer.
You breathe a little deeper.
You handle the world a little better.

Life doesn’t change…
but you do.

That’s why life feels better after time with a horse.
Because they don’t fix your problems—
they remind you
that you’re strong enough, steady enough,
and grounded enough
to face them.

And sometimes,
that’s exactly what your heart needs.

How do horses calm you?

😊 This video was originally made a few months ago for Maggie’s new owner, Samantha. At the time, Tim and I were still figuring out how to do these videos and how we wanted to share information—especially for clients purchasing our c**ts.

We spent a lot of time talking through what felt like the best way to explain things clearly and naturally, and this video became part of that learning process. It was really just us practicing—talking, recording, laughing, and working through it together.

When I noticed a comment on the video today, I realized its visibility had changed. I considered taking it down, but the comment was so heartfelt that we decided maybe it wasn’t such a bad thing to leave it up. There are a few mess-ups and some good laughs along the way—but here it is.

You may have noticed a consistent upload of YouTube videos being shared here on our page, and we thought an explanation might be in order 🙂.

Tim has been training horses since 1988. Three years ago, we made the decision to stop taking outside c**ts for training and focus solely on the c**ts born and raised at McNamee C**t Company. That shift affected many people who had relied on Tim to start their c**ts, and we didn’t take that lightly.

Together, Tim and Danette decided to start making videos—and here’s why:

1️⃣ To share Tim’s approach to starting c**ts.
His strategies are effective, thoughtful, and always focused on building a solid foundation for the horse.

2️⃣ To make good use of our time with our own c**ts.
The time spent filming is time well spent. We can help others learn while still accomplishing what needs to be done with the c**ts we’re raising and training. In the process, we learn a great deal about ourselves by watching how we teach and train.

3️⃣ We do it for the c**ts.
The c**ts leave McNamee C**t Company with a strong foundation in both breeding and training. When new owners build on that foundation, we want to be a resource that provides the tools and understanding to support their success.

4️⃣ To pass on a legacy of teaching.
Tim and Danette have always been passionate about their horses and teaching. We hope to reach anyone wanting to learn new skills—but we also hope this knowledge is passed down to our grandkids, great-grandkids, and beyond.

We’re excited to share this journey and grateful to have you along with us.

Orange cat herd reduction!! Stray Grandma Kitty (Calico) is spayed now, but her offspring keep popping up. I might add- how many "rare" orange females we produce. ;) If you're interested, please let me know. We have 2 sizes and a few fluffy little ones really want to be inside kitties. 🧡💛🧡

“Darn Good Horses”

McNamee C**t Co. is a family run business located in White Bird, Idaho and we pride ourselves in providing Darn Good horses! Tim has a lifetime of knowledge and experience working with and training horses, everything from groundwork, halter breaking, c**t starting, tune-ups or finishing. Tim works with the horse’s natural ability to be in motion and enabling the horse to become confident about their movements in a quiet and soft manner. He pushes the horse and is able to get a lot of action without getting the horse upset, this provides a solid platform that allows the horse to always move forward and improve its skillset.

Being Tim’s daughter Shantel McNamee has been riding since before she could walk. She has not only inherited her father’s horsemanship but she has furthered her skills by studying at Weatherford College in Texas as well as excelling in the rodeo arena in barrel racing and breakaway roping. Shantel is extremely talented as a rider, horse trainer, and teacher. We are excited to announce that Shantel has relocated to Clarkston, WA where she continues to train, provide lessons as well as attend rodeo competitions with McNamee horses and client horses. Even though they are a couple hours apart Tim and Shantel still work closely together and maintain a great working relationship and often still workhorses together when needed.
