PETS IN CRISIS.
Jackpot doesn’t understand.
If you can’t accept the long-term responsibility of an animal then DO NOT GET ONE.
The number of surrenders and abandonments is heartbreaking.
Leaders at area animal shelters are expressing concern over a distressing trend continuing into 2025: The increase in animal abandonment.
Both Nashville Humane Association and Metro Animal Care and Control leaders have noted dramatic increases in the number of abandoned animals at their facilities over the past several months.
The nationwide trend in the uptick of animal abandonment cases is, in many cases, due to such factors as housing insecurity, unaffordable pet deposit fees, and general economic pressure.
Nashville Humane Association reports that the increase in animal abandonment at their West Nashville is a grave concern.
Laura Baker, Nashville Humane Association’s Executive Director, believes it is crucial that owners of pets in crisis know that help and resources are available not only through Nashville Humane Association and MACC, but other agencies in the area as well.
Baker commented, “Owners who are faced with the need to rehome an animal should know that there are resources available to them.
In addition to the resources provided by MACC and Nashville Humane Association, there are several other agencies in the immediate area that serve pet owners and pets in crisis.”
Baker notes that raising awareness for the work of other agencies in the area could be a huge step towards keeping animals in homes and out of shelters.
In particular, Baker notes that Nashville not for profits Pawster and Pet Community Center fill important roles and provide crucial resources to pets and people in need.
