Why I choose a slip lead….
There are many ways people prefer to walk their dogs such as:
Buckle collar and leash
Collar with flexilead
And the most popular, the harness.
For a large dog, easy of walking is the goal. I don’t enjoy being dragged and pulled on a walk and all of the above ENCOURAGE pulling.
A dog’s force for pulling comes from their chest and shoulders.
Having a low set collar or a harness is the perfect way to make your dog pull on a walk.
If you want to DISCOURAGE your dog from pulling, try a slip lead.
BUT
It will take some technique from you to make a slip lead your favorite walking tool. Here are some tips:
Tip 1: make a “P” loop when putting the lead over the head. put the slip lead at the TOP of the neck where it meets the head and make it snug to fit. (This will need to be adjusted back into position at times during the walk but totally worth it)
Tip 2: pull/correct by pulling up, not back with a quick tug and command (easy, wait, slow, etc) so the dog can recognize what you’re asking
Tip 3: Consistency. Just like anything else, you will need to train these techniques until your dog understands the way in which you prefer to walk.
Walking your dog can either be a pain or something you both enjoy. You decide. I hope the slip lead method improves your walks

Your humorous reminder to cut your dog’s nails 💅🏻
All joking aside, nail maintenance is an important part of dog ownership and affects the quality of life for your dog.
Tips to trimming your dog’s nails:
• start right away
• be consistent - I like weekly trims but adjust according to your dog’s nail growth
• use a dremel with a diamond tip
• include high value treats to make it a positive experience
• don’t give up! Giving up send the message to your dog that using bad behavior during nail trims will work to get them out of it next time
Remember, not all dogs like their nails done no matter how positive you make it. The sooner you realize this, the easier it is to push past the push back they may give you.

Surprise! Introducing The Stowaway!
The ultrasound showed no puppies for our Miles x Cora breeding. Weeks later, I felt a kick when petting Cora’s belly. Sure enough, the X-Ray confirmed there was A STOWAWAY!!! A singleton
Growing up with littermates is crucial for puppies so the decision was made to let our stowaway go to a trusted breeder friend @wdswissies , who just so happened to have a litter due on the same day! (That never happens).
Foster Mom, LuVee, took him in as her own right away. Cora had a C-section so she was unaware she even had a puppy, making the transition seamless for her too.
We will be accepting applications for this special guy along with going through applications on file. I am not in a rush to place him so be patient with this process and if you are interested in him, send in an application if you haven’t already -or- if you’ve already filled out an application, email to remind me you’re still interested.
Tip: Finding the best home is always the first priority but finding that WITH the extra brownie points of being willing to show takes precedence. I won’t know if he’s show quality until he’s a bit older but always good to keep options open.

We didn’t get any content of us actually showing but behind the scenes at a dog show is where the real show is.
This is my favorite place to socialize and learn manners for our dogs. With hundreds (sometimes thousands) of dogs and people, this environment teaches our dogs how to be calm on a leash and mind their business (no longing, barking, pulling on a lead). I find this environment builds confidence in my dogs to be great ambassadors of the breed.
Mirabelle did great with this new environment and she got great experience in the ring. She was awarded WB / BOB / BOBOH Friday and while she performed even better on Sat, she wasn’t awarded any points. That’s just how dog shows go. Still, both days were valuable training for her (and I).
I hope you enjoyed all the interesting breeds featured in this reel and appreciate all the grooming that goes into showing some breeds. I’m glad Swissies are wash and wear 😆
