Wildlife Alert: Unusual Barred Owl Behavior
Our team recently responded to an incident in Woodstock where a hungry barred owl attempted to prey on a resident's poodle. This winter's harsh conditions have created extreme food scarcity for local wildlife.
When traditional prey becomes scarce, these adaptable hunters may exhibit unusual behavior. Please:
🦉Keep small pets supervised outdoors
🦉Contact VINS if you see wildlife behaving unusually, (802)359-5000 x212
🦉Never handle wild raptors
Our rehabilitation team has taken in this owl for assessment before determining an appropriate release location.
Thank you to Woodstock Emergency Services and the community member who handled this challenging situation with understanding.
