Help us congratulate FF Bryson Hue, Lt Victor Mancha, Lt Bill Dempsey, and FF Ignacio Perez. All were recognized at roll call this week.

FF Hue was presented with the Army Civilian Service Achievement Medal after winning the Garrison Professional of the Year FY24 award.

Lt Mancha was presented a Certificate of Achievement for winning the Garrison Commanders Award for Excellence for Q4 FY24.

FF Perez was presented with a Length of Service award for his dedication to the U.S. Government for 25 years.

Lt Dempsey was presented with a Length of Service award for his dedication to the U.S. Government for 20 years.

Great work by all, we congratulate you and thank you for all you do.

Help us welcome Assistant Chief Alfonso Soto and his wife Stephanie to the WSMR FD family. AC Soto will assume the responsibility of overseeing Fire Prevention and Fire Education for the entire installation. He was born in raised in El Paso Tx where he graduated from El Paso High School. After high school he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served as a firefighter for 11 years after honorably discharging as a Staff Sergeant. During his enlistment he served at various places such as Nellis AFB in Nevada, Anderson AB in Guam, Mountain Home AFB in Idaho, and Ramstein AB in Germany. He began his civil service firefighting career in 2011 at Ft. Eustis VA, proceeded onto DLA in Ca and here recently served as the AC of Training at MCAAP in McAlester Ok. He brings a wealth of experience and knowledge in all facets of the fire service.

AC Soto enjoys traveling with his wife, attending sporting events and cheering on his teams the Pittsburgh Steelers, LA Dodgers, and UT Longhorns. He’s happy to finally be back in the local area close to his parents.

We're happy to have AC Soto his wife Stephanie and their pups Ember and Bailey on board the WSMR FD family and the WSMR team.

Help us welcome Christopher Moya, his wife Myriam, their son Axel, and daughters Yadirah and Adamari to the WSMR FD family. Christopher will be assigned to fire station 3. He was born in Albuquerque and raised in Socorro NM where he graduated from Socorro High School. He brings lots of experience with him from serving at Midway Fire Department since 2016. Christopher enjoys spending time with his family, hunting and fishing, and watching his son play basketball for his school and karate tournaments for his daughters. We're glad to have Christopher, his wife Myriam and their children on board the WSMR FD family and the WSMR team.

Earlier this week, we recognized some of our own.

FF A. Gomez was presented with a length of service award for his dedication to the U.S. Government for 15 years.

Lt. J. Diaz, FF J. Cruz and FF A. Barboza were presented with Certificates of Achievement for actions taken to save the life of a toddler.

Lt. J. Garcia was presented with a Civilian Service Achievement Medal for his leadership role during a medical emergency that aided in saving the life of a toddler.

Countdown to has begun. The DES family held its annual potluck at fire station 1. Team members gathered to give thanks, take a lil break from work, and enjoy some delicious food.

Huge shout out to Ms. Pippen for putting all this together and to everyone that helped cook and bring food.

Burgers for Badges is Nov. 9

Shout out to Las Cruces First, for hosting Burgers for Badges on Saturday, Nov. 9.

Las Cruces First provides burgers and entertainment for local firefighters, police, dispatchers, corrections, medical providers, and members of the armed forces and their families from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, 2024, in the Mesilla Valley Mall parking lot near JC Penney.

We appreciate the generosity and camaraderie of our friends at Las Cruces First. Thank you.

Earlier this week, Asst. Chief Medina and Cpt. Maese (not pictured) were recognized by Lt. Col. Kelso and SFC Morris, of the 5th AR Brigade 3-410th Regiment BEB with a plaque and coin of excellence for supporting deployment training for Army National Guard and Army Reserve firefighters. Good job!!

Help us welcome Lieutenant Steven Neeley, his wife Mary, and their 2 daughters Rosemary & Lillian to the WSMR FD family. Steven was born and raised in Tacoma, WA. After graduating , he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force where he proudly served for 8 years. During his enlistment, he gained experience by serving at various bases such as Aviano AB in Italy, RAF Mildenhall in England, and McChord AFB in WA. After his enlistment, he began his DoD firefighter journey and continued working at JBLM and eventually transferred to Kirkland AFB in NM. He brings nearly 20 years of firefighting experience with him and will serve as a Lieutenant at fire station 3. During his off time, Steven enjoys family trips, camping, and raising his 2 daughters. We're glad to have Steven, his wife and their 2 daughters on board the WSMR FD family and the WSMR team.

Help us welcome Dakota Moon to the WSMR FD family. Dakota was born and raised in Alamogordo, NM and is a graduate of Cloudcroft High School. After graduating, he proceeded to further his education and received his Associate’s Degree in Engineering Technology from Dona Ana Community College. He ventured off to work for the Forestry Service and started volunteering with Oro Vista Fire Department. He’s a 2nd generation firefighter and is following in the footsteps of his father who served and retired from Alamogordo Fire Department. He will be assigned to fire station 4. During his off time, Dakota enjoys rock climbing, archery, and hunting. We're glad to have Dakota on board the WSMR FD family and the WSMR team.

Sparky and firefighters were out judging all the Chalk the Block art in the community. It was a very difficult decision for Sparky but he has made his selection.

This years winner is the masterpiece located on Hawk St. Please contact us so that we can arrange prize pickup.

We want to thank everyone who took time to participate and we congratulate the winning family.

Great turnout to the open house at Fire Station 1. Visitors got an up close look at our response vehicles, equipment used for emergencies, and a tour of the station.

Highlights were definitely getting some fire department swag, chowing down on some delicious hot dogs, and of course meeting Sparky.
