This little tike couldn't have cared less about the tarp. She was more interested in eating it than running from it.

This little mare impresses me almost every time I work with her.
Today was her 1st time in the longlines out and about and she was an absolute rock star.
She's going to make a lovely driving horse.

People always ask me, how it feels to be retired...
?????
Who the heck is retired???
Not me!
I love my job.
This yearling Gypsy Friesian X is such a nice guy.
He's extremely smart. Doesn't get rattled.
He's in quite a growth spurt right now as is evident by the height of his hindquarters.
It's fun to watch the little ones grow up and help them develop the tools they need throughout life.

I have loaned out my dumb jockey surcingle and blue longlines (not pictured here) and can't for the life of me remember who has it. I am in hopes that whomever has it will PM me. I need it back asap.
Thanks!

CHALLENGE YOURSELVES
We all expect our horses to be balanced and supple on both sides.
Challenge yourselves
Mount and dismount from both sides.
Lead from both sides.
Become ambidextrous.
You'll be amazed what it will do for you in the saddle.

We all know winter in Maine is a horrible time to try to find time (with shortened daylight) and footing (although this winter has been fairly good!) to work our 4 legged friends.
That said, there are wonderful exercises you can use suppling and brain work that can be done in the comfort of a stall or run in.
Suggestions:
*Try clicker training for something new. Start with the simplest of tasks and build to something more complex.
*Whether you chose to do carrot bends or utilize the clicker training consistent suppling will keep your ponies happier and more comfortable. And an added benefit is the brain work and bonding this exercise accomplish.
*If your horse struggles with understanding lateral work, take this time to do some ground work and break it down.
*If your horse is afraid of the whip, do some work to help them understand what the purpose of the whip is. That it's a communication tool not a beating tool.
*Try some simple trick training.
*Work on standing quietly. This is much more difficult than it sounds. And in my opinion it is the single most important exercise you can work on if you want to long line or drive. I'm also a stickler for it with my under saddle horses.
For more ideas, give me a shout and we can toss around some ideas. You can reach me by PM or email or phone.

As we move into the new year, this is the time I like to remind people to take time to review USEF or other management organizations for rule changes. Every year horse show organizations implement rule changes. A cold snowy or rainy day is a great time to review the rules.
As always Good Luck in the 2023 show season!

But they NAILED the finale.🤣
It's shedding season!
When you are shedding your winter coat and itchy as can be, there is nothing like a good pitch fork scratch to put you into ecstacy!
When you're stuck in a small confined paddock rehabbing from a suspensory injury, you make the most of it.🐴🤣
Wait for it!.......
While I was shooting this video yesterday, of Velvet trotting through the snow, this happened.......
Kingston playing with toy
Since we have a huge winter storm powering down on us, let's all share what we like to do to keep our horses from being bored while cooped up in the barn.
I take empty gallon oil jugs and tie them to the walls with baling twine. The horses LOVE them.
Another idea is to put grain in them and put them on the ground with a small hole, so the horses have to work for the treat.
Rykaa and Cadbury playing
Rykaa is missing his playmate!
While looking for another video, I happened to come across this one. These 2 certainly enjoyed each other.
Cool windy days bring out the crazy in everyone!
I don't know about anyone else's horses, but mine were wired for sound this morning with all that wind!
Unfortunately, I missed some of the best footage, but it's still gorgeous with the fall colors.
Windsor, Kingston and Tsjalling playing
Cadbury meets Clyde
Clyde and Jameson playing Halter Tag
Mandy driving Alex
[This was shot last year.}
It shows the multitasking we do.
Driving the horse, exercising the dog.... and giving one passenger a ride.
Watch until the end....
