🐾 Important Update: Canine Bordetella (Canine Cough) Awareness 🐾
While there’s no current public health alert for canine Bordetella in the Flathead Valley as of November 2025, the risk of canine cough is always present...especially where dogs gather and play.
Bordetella (a common cause of canine cough) is a contagious respiratory infection that can spread anywhere dogs are in close contact...like dog parks, grooming salons, training classes, boarding facilities, or even while taking your dog out for a walk in your neighborhood.
👉 What to Watch For:
* Coughing or gagging
* Sneezing
* Runny nose or eyes
* Decreased energy
* (Sometimes) vomiting
Most cases are mild and resolve on their own, but please contact your veterinarian if your dog shows any symptoms.
💡 Prevention Tips:
* Stay up to date on vaccinations...some vets recommend a Bordetella booster every 6 months.
* Use caution in high-traffic dog areas.
* Keep water and food bowls clean and sanitized.
* Isolate your pup if you notice symptoms to help prevent spread.
At Three Dog Ranch, every dog is screened for illness before boarding, and all guests are required to be current on vaccinations. Still, as with the human flu, vaccines don’t protect against every strain...but together, we can help keep all our furry friends safe and healthy! ❤️🐶
