Odom's Mtn. Horse Ranch

Before beginning Billy asked me what I was going to do. The goal has never changed—— convince this lil brute to willingly allow haltering!!! He has been a tuff nut to crack. But today I was over the top when he allowed the rope to be placed on him… as opposed to throwing it. I walked my hand up the rope to his neck & began to lightly stroke it. I put a feel on the rope and waited. The minor flex of his neck muscle rendered “release” of that feel. NOW we have something going!!!

The old timers have some saying about a horse that is able to roll with ease. “A GOOD horse”!? She rolled 8 times in a row. I had to stop filming at 58 seconds. .... I really think it has something to do with good, strong, short & agile back.

Given the fact that we bought TONS of hay year after year, the idea of growing our own makes us giddy!!! There are factors - positive and negative- in the process. Not to say we are innocents, but the fact remains- new ground, weather, species, and of course... harvesters. This is our second cutting. Splitting between huge round bales and ( compared to 3 string CA bales) small square bales... we are ecstatic about this harvest. The SMELL is pure heaven too.
