Quick backstory.. I had a friend who was considering leaving the commission salon that she had worked at well over a decade, but was nervous about the unknown world of self-employment. We sat down & I shared all the things, numbers (sales & costs), retail lines, taxes, tasks you take on, ect. I have now been on my own 10 years, including 4.5 years of being the owner of Eleven Studio Salons, at that time though, I had been on my own for 5.5 years and had already grown and made changes from when I first started. I could tell I was starting to overwhelm her a bit so I stopped and said, “Just go buy foils, lightener, a cape and do hair! It’s not that f*cking hard!” 😂 At a lunch a few months later, after she had quit the old salon & went on her own (where she made more in her first WEEK than she made in a month at commission salon 🙌🏼) she brought up my, “It’s not that f*cking hard!” comment & how much it made an impact! And that’s the reason I’m sharing..
If you have thought about going out on your own and feel totally overwhelmed, take a step back. Outside of a CPA or knowledge tax expert and supplies, you don’t need much to get started! If you have an established clientele, you don’t have to do the social media noise, be a professional photographer or spend hours doing behind the scenes work. I would love to have a sit down and be that open book for you to see if a studio salon is the best fit for you. Call, text or message to talk more! -Alli 316.516.1692
