I'm so excited to share that we now have benches overlooking the arena and one of our main pastures. Parents of lesson students you now have a place to sit in the shade!

My dad built these on his day off and I could not be more grateful. Once this next round of rain passes we look forward to seeing them in use!

Nike and I tried out a new arena last night and attended the Newton Saddle Club Funshow.

We did both the Western pleasure and barrels. He had some wonderful learning moments and I've got some homework for him this week.

The real joy for me though was getting to see not only Nike in the arena but 3 other graduates of my training program. I love nothing more than seeing people get to enjoy their horses. Everyone placed and had a wonderful evening even if we all didn't get home until after midnight!

It was a hot day yesterday but that didn't stop LBF from attending two different horse shows.

First show of the day was KSHA Summer Sizzle (very appropriately named if you ask me! 🥵)

I was talked into doing the showmanship swap where you bring your horse up to the arena and everyone trades horses. You end up showing a horse that isn't your own. I ended up with a mini stud named Danny and we got up first in the class. Sunner and her kiddo ended up in second!

Then we made it down to the Haysville Saddle Club for the first Funshow of this season. It was supposed to start in April but the rain cancelled everything before this one!

Left Barrel First had a wonderful day at the KSHA Summer Spree yesterday.

Hint of Sunshine aka Sunner had a great show and we even pulled off a win in the showmanship! I haven't competed in that class in over 3 years so I was definitely a bit rusty going in but muscle memory and a great horse pulled us through. She also showed in a couple of the driving classes and was fabulous as always. Won pony driving and had a very excited obstacle driving for third.

JNJ Stole My Pay aka Travis was in training with me last October for 30 days and just came back for another 30 beginning of July. We are working on a lot of his basics and he really stepped up to the plate for this show. His owner had an awesome go in the walk/ trot Hunter Under Saddle for the win out of 6! And he and I had some great goes in the open Western pleasure classes. Definitely starting to feel like a broke horse!
He makes me miss showing pleasure horses.

Feels good to finally have something to put in the barn this year! We received our first 20 brome bales out of the field today. Now for 50 more 🫠

I always try to buy all the hay I need as it comes out of the fields because I'm a huge control freak about it and very meticulously babysit it all winter. In doing this the quality is preserved because I'll keep it either inside or under tarps and off the ground on pallets. But this year because you all have been keeping me booked and busy we will be overflowing this barn and I'll have to have some outside. Such a blessing to have to figure out how to manage extra hay because I have so many extra horses to feed!

5.5 inches of rain and being stuck inside for 3 days obviously means you take a trip to the "pool" when you are let out. Joe thought it may as well have been Christmas morning when he saw the puddle and was super excited to show his bestie the joys of going for a swim. You can see their handiwork in the second half of the video.

Round pen upgrades are on my to-do list to help make it more waterproof but 5+ inches of rain in 3 days is rough on any surface. Made for a good splash pad though!

Nice and easy for this Appaloosa. This is one of his first sessions with me where I actually started moving him around instead of just walking up, haltering him, and trying to make friends. Lakota has a complicated history and some trauma to work through but a good attitude and seems to want to learn. He was pulled from the kill pen last fall and was super sick right after that.

He's halter broke-ish which is why I'm still in the pen he lives in. And in the video he does drift away from me and doesn't quite understand how to search for that release of pressure yet. But this is the building blocks. Nice and slow and quiet. Just the way I like it.

Everyone loved the little two year old I posted last month learning this trick including Malibu's owners and requested I teach her during her tune-up. Well 4 days in and I think she got it! I got to watch her little 9 year old kiddo put it to good use already!
