Clean feet with pink toes for the birthday girl this morning! Her owner is so much fun! We do all kinds of things differently with this one. The best part is, if we don't like it, we change it at the next groom because she grows back!

Had a little time today unexpectedly, so I roped one of the Sapphire Hounds into getting clean and getting pretty nails! I have 13 different colors available for anyone who wants a little fun on clean toes!

This cute little guy would like to help us make an announcement at The Sapphire Hound! We are in a position of having to implement a no call/no show policy. We understand life throws curve balls, but please have enough respect of our time and our other clients' time to realize that an appointment you don't show up for and don't contact us to cancel results in wasted time and takes an appointment spot from clients who are looking for their dogs to be groomed. From this point moving forward, if you are one of these few that doesn't feel like we need to be communicated with to cancel an appointment you have scheduled, we are no longer going to allow time to be booked because it is not a good fit for us. If you are more than 15 minutes late without communication, it is considered a no call/no show and we cannot accommodate because we have valuable relationships with our loyal clients and will respect their time as they respect ours.

That being said, we still stand by not having a cancelation policy in general and just ask for simple communication if your appointment isn't working out for any reason and a reschedule needs to be made. We are always happy to accommodate these situations, and we thank every single one of our clients recognizing our time is important.

Clean feet!

I groomed this sweet bernedoodle last week for her foster mom through KHS. She got fixed yesterday and will be going back to KHS in a few days. If any of my clients are interested, please let me know so we can work through the KHS foster advocate instead of going through the main process.

Her name is Shelby. She just turned 1 year old. She is kennel trained (although spending much of her first year in a kennel she likes to be in it a little too much.) She's learning how to play and be loved on. She was a very good girl for a first groom and having some pretty big issues with her coat. We got her cleaned up, cut down and her coat is so soft, shiny, and healthy! She really loves to lay her head on a lap or shoulder. A little timid, but is also able to go into an office setting and lay at your feet happily for the day!

Puppy groom training is imperative from a young age. These two are from different homes, but we started really young with both of them to get use to vibrations, sounds, and holding still for sharp tools. They are becoming masters of being groomed! We want to introduce the process in short sessions, often before a full groom is required. I saw both of these pups very young, had them come in for bathing and some minor detailing. We worked our way up with short intervals in between grooms, now both of them are statues and get the full grooming done without anxiety or fear!

I get the absolute pleasure of this beautiful sweet doodle girl every couple of weeks sitting on my table and in my tub! She lives the best dog life EVER! Living in the country, being the life of the party running through trees and fields, I see muddy feet past her ankles, pine trees branches, grass, stickers of all types, and somehow she always knows she's coming to give me love because that is the morning she always decides it's time to give me a new challenge. I happily accept all of her challenges that get wrapped up in her gorgeous curly coat! Today was no exception: she decided to go pick up hundreds of fuzzy stickers on her morning jaunt outside. Each and every one of those stickers was removed with a lot of conditioner coating her fur and loving care with a fine tooth comb. No full groom today, just a small trim around her feet, face, and sani along with a really good bath to shine her natural colors back up with magic black and magic white shampoos (yes, I meticulously place the two shampoos where they need to be for her coat). She is always the best to give love during and after her clean ups. See you in a couple of weeks, sweet girl! I truly look forward to the "what are we going to find today" game we play! Her personalized gifts to me of the collections in her fur are the best!

Here is what she doesn't realize: I will take all of her challenges! I won't back down, and I'll be grateful for all gifts she decides to bring with her!

When the pup is moving to the country and owners want an easier to manage coat so burrs don't stick as much, but they do want to keep some of the highlights on his head! We make his personality pop and look like the friendly sweet big man he is!

I've been wanting to do a mohawk for awhile, I got the perfect candidate. Charlie absolutely rocks this!

This little man is learning to trust me and quickly becoming my buddy! He first came in a few months ago after his owners were having a hard time finding a groomer willing to work with his patience level and being absolutely terrified of noise and new things.

We go his pace, do things his way, and it's working well!

Difficulties due to fear always come with patience and one on one attention. We figured out quickly, he really likes to be sung to....if that's what it takes, that's what happens here at The Sapphire Hound! No promises it will be pleasant sounding 😉

Shedding season is upon us! Belle's favorite thing is to be brushed out, but she doesn't mind the bath side either.

The Sapphire Hound has a new shed control shampoo with omegas to help control the fur floof gathering on the floor. All of the hounds at the Sapphire Hound have already had a bath using the shampoo. Not only do they smell great, but the robot vacuum is also a much happier machine!

Big name store groomers have turned him down, his owners gave up and just have trimmed him themselves because everywhere they turned the answer was "no". This little guy came to me with a little fear and what I suspect is sensitive skin. I worked with him in the way he was okay with and he became my little buddy. His cut might not be perfect yet, he may have gotten a little intolerant at the end, but we will get there with him!

How young is too young?

Puppies are never too young to do introduction to grooming. Even if they don't need a hair cut or nails trimmed, getting them acclimated to the vibration and people touching their feet is a favor owners are doing for themselves, groomers, veteranarians, and the puppy.

This sweet little 2 month old baby came to see me for an introduction groom, and he went home smelling like milk and honey, the puppy nails got a slight trim and file, and he even got a fancy little hair cut and tie to match his gentlemanly personality! 🥰🥰

Memphis feels so much better being clean! He was treated with medicated shampoo for some extra flaking he has showing up being caused by what we think is a food allergy and after letting the shampoo sit for a few minutes, there is so much improvement in his coat and skin. We will follow up with treatment again in short time to be sure he is comfortable and his skin continues to stay more hydrated and flake free.

Poodle mixes are becoming more and more popular for various reasons. With the benefits also comes maintenance of the coat- HIGH maintenance.

Mattes are the taboo of curly, double coated breeds. They are the nemesis of our dogs, owners, and groomers alike. This is hair that gets tangled and wraps around itself as a knot. It will form tightly wound clumps of dead and live fur. If it doesn't get brushed out it will continue to collect more fur and get tight with the skin. Tearing of the skin and infections are high risk with matting.

It is extremely time consuming once mattes get out of control to comb them out. Typically it is best to cut them, this is also dangerous because of the sharp equipment being close to the skin.

A groomer will do their best to blend the entire coat, but mattes being close to the skin creates patches, which creates a patchy cut. In the winter, groomers prefer to not shave a coat down to bare minimum because the skin needs protection from the cold.

There is a solution to keep the fluffy, beautiful coat. The coat has to be brushed with the correct brush or a metal tooth comb. Spend some time to "pet" your dog, running fingers thoroughly through their hair, if you feel tangles starting to form because your fingers are pulling them, take the comb and comb that out.

If you find mattes, the best thing to do is get your fur baby into the groomer to determine if they can easily be brushed out or if they need shaved down to start over with the coat. Please do not get them wet! This makes them worse and they don't dry well.

Zoey is our beautiful sheepadoodle friend. She is extremely fluffy and soft, she's had a few small matted areas, mostly around her ears, but her mom works with us to keep her coat brushed out, and checks the trouble spots several times a week. We know hours are spent beyond what we do every few weeks to groom her here at The Sapphire Hound.

Groomers don't have magic wands! I promise, we have brushes that are designed for different coats, problematic areas, and we have clippers and scissors. It doesn't take very long for a knot to present itself. Right now with high winds present a lot of days, dogs rolling round and playing, dead leaves and grass on the ground, it is more likely to happen.

The Sapphire Hound is happy to work to bring a coat back to health and help you as the owner to achieve the long term goals of the look you want. It takes time, a lot of time and effort. BUT it will build your relationship with your fur baby, and it will instill a habit that becomes second nature. Time will get shorter and shorter, the coat will get healthier and healthier, and a grooming appointment will be less expensive, less time, less work, and less often.

We love to see your babies, but we also want them to love to see us!
