We are so pleased to welcome Dr. Adlyn Crockett to our practice! Dr. Crockett graduated from KSU College of Veterinary Medicine in May. She is a Wichita native and a lover of all animals. Dr. Crockett spent time as an undergraduate and a veterinary student in our practice and she has impressed us with her enthusiasm and dedication to animal health. Memorial Day is a time for remembrance and celebration, marking the unofficial start of summer with barbecues, pool parties, and fireworks. But amidst the festivities, it's crucial to consider the safety of our pets.

*Keep food and drinks out of their reach. Make sure to ask your guests not to feed your pets any table scraps or leave their drinks unattended.
*Create a safe place from the crowds and loud noises.
*Stay Hydrated- provide plenty of water to keep your furry friends hydrated.
*Make sure your pet's ID/Microchip information is up to date- Fireworks can be extremely scary for your pet and they may bolt!

So whether you're grilling at home or lounging by the pool, be sure to keep your pet's well-being in mind!

It's time to be on the lookout for pesky- pain in the grass awns!! These tiny, sharp seeds can cause discomfort and even pain for your pet if left untreated.

After your stroll in the park or a romp in the grass, be sure to thoroughly check your animal's feet for any grass awns that may have hitched a ride. Carefully look in between their toes and pads, as well as around the nails, to ensure that no sneaky seeds are causing trouble.

⚠If you see a grass awn, gently remove it with tweezers or your fingers -if it is not removed in time, grass awns will continue to burrow further and can lead to infection and abscesses.⚠

So as you enjoy the beautiful outdoors with your four-legged companion, remember to take a moment to check for grass awns in their paws. Your furry friend will thank you for it!

Dr. Skaer's journey began 25 years ago when she graduated from Kansas State University as Dr. Christen Skaer. As she turned her graduation cap's tassel, she knew she was stepping into a career that would bring her immense joy and fulfillment.

Her passion for animals was evident from the start, as she worked with her dad, Dr. Bill, at a very young age. It wasn't long before she became known in the community for her loving and compassionate care for animals of all shapes and sizes. Whether it's a squirmy kitten or a giant Great Dane, each one is treated with the same level of care and respect.

Over the years, Dr. Skaer has faced challenges and triumphs. From performing delicate surgeries to nursing sick animals back to health, she has always gone above and beyond for her furry patients. And it's not just the animals she cares for - Dr. Skaer also provides comfort and support to grieving pet owners, understanding the deep bond between humans and their beloved pets.
