Please consider donating towards getting Juan’s cats spayed/neutered. We are helping out WAAL to get this done.
Good afternoon, WAAL family!
This is Christy (the Director of WAAL) and today, I want to introduce you to a good human. This is Juan. When I told Juan that I wanted to take his picture to show all of you what a Community Animal Hero looked like, he told me, “There are more good people than bad people out there. I just try to do good every time I can. Animals don’t understand good and bad, but they have feelings and they deserve for someone to be there for them.”
You see, here’s Juan’s story. Juan and another neighbor reached out to our welfare team about some dogs who were locked in kennels across the street. They didn’t have adequate shelter, food, or water for the upcoming weather conditions and the owner wouldn’t listen. The owner wouldn’t answer the door for us and our options were limited.
So, Juan did what heroes do. He stepped up. He offered to take the dogs in until the weather was better. We provided kennels, food, blankets, and treats so he had what he needed to care for them until the storm passes. This gives us critical time to look for other options for these dogs in the long-term. Juan did not have to inconvenience himself for these dogs but he did, because it’s the right thing to do. And when I asked Juan if there was anything we could do for him? He wanted to know if we could help him get a couple stray cats fixed so they could be healthier.
We hear a lot of “I could never do what you do” in our line of work, and we understand what people mean. It’s hard. Sometimes no matter what you do it’s never enough. But want to know how we all got started? We made a choice one day that standing by and not doing something was no longer an option.
We need more Juans in the world.
