The perks of training a 110 pound clingy Rottweiler is that they will do you the courtesy of sitting on your foot so they know where you are while they can keep an eye on the guy driving the forklift back and forth. Thanks Tiny. 😅

When Tiny first arrived for her training she was extremely unsure and nervous to the point of growling and barking at everyone because we were all strangers to her and she didn’t know she could trust us. She had never been away from her dad and was thrust into a new environment. We gave her a quiet place to decompress and predictability with a consistent schedule but most of all we just gave her some time. Now, a week and half later she was play bowing to me and inviting me to play when I let her out for her potty break and greets me with a wagging tail every time I go see her. If you had told me this dog would be doing this when she first arrived I doubt I would have believed you. Sometimes time can be the best gift we can give to dogs. Time to get used to change, time to adjust, time to learn to trust us. ❤️

Ryder arrived this week for our 3 Week Board and Train program. His dad has already worked with him a lot and has laid a solid foundation, but he lives on a large property and Ryder’s recall isn’t always the best so we will be taking a lot of time focusing on that and teaching Ryder how to understand and respond to the E-Collar so dad has a way to communicate with Ryder at a distance. We will also be rounding out his obedience to help dad be able to communicate more effectively overall. He’s a bright dog and has already made good progress in a couple sessions. 😁

I called Milo and Frankie’s mom this week to check on how they are doing and she said they are doing great and following commands and she’s working with them every day. That’s what I like to hear! 😁

I always try to offer follow up support to people whose dogs have gone through our board and train programs because sometimes the transition from here to the home can be challenging for both dog and owners. It’s important everyone is on the same page as far as what to expect from the dog and themselves. I’m not handing over the leash of a fully trained dog when they leave here. I’m handing over the leash of a dog who has had a strong foundation laid for moving forward with you. My job is to help get them off to a good start being a well behaved, well trained dog. 🐾

Milo and Frankie, who I’ve been affectionately calling my weenes, are here for training at Hidden Acres Dog Resort ! Their mom really wanted to get them a good grasp on the basics so she can have more confidence handling them at home. Working with Dachshunds in a board and train setting is actually a first for me! It’s been fun but I’m tired of bending down so far to give them treats. 😆

Handsome Ghost! 👻

This guy is heading home tomorrow after his two weeks of training. He’s a Husky/German Shepherd mix who had some rude behavior he needed to sort out. He’s done extremely well and moved through his training program with leaps and bounds.

Kanza and Penny have been having a blast at Hidden Acres! They are a little on the fearful side so I was worried they it would take them a few days to adjust but they have done great and come so far in training and are loving their nature walks and playing with their friends in daycare. 😊

Meet Blue! This handsome guy has been with us at Hidden Acres Dog Resort for about a week. He was a little nervous when he first arrived but has come out of his shell and is showing us some of his naughty side. 😈

While he is here we are working on basic commands as well as no jumping, no pulling, and playing with toys politely. Stay tuned for updates!

Super proud of my dog, Texas, today. I have been working on training him on what’s called “running contacts” for agility and this is the first time I am training a dog with this method. Right now we are on the step of teaching him to run in a straight line hitting a mat that dings if he runs over it. It seems simple enough but it can be tough for dogs with long strides like Texas. The exercise is about teaching him to drive through but adjust his stride to hit the mat. Ideally he should be getting at least one session a day but I’ve been busy with the new job, training other things, and the weather being inconsistent so we’ve only gotten in a few a week. The last few sessions he’s been hitting the mat inconsistently but I felt like we needed to move on to the next step and add movement on my end. Something just told me to trust him and so I did and we had the best session yet! I think he only missed the mat twice and probably did about 12 repetitions some with me running. Not only that but I noticed he was purposefully adjusting his stride to hit the mat without losing speed! We still have a long way to go before we are actually running on the contact obstacles but today was a win and a reminder that sometimes you just need to trust your dog.

Today Texas had his first gig as my demo dog representing my training at our open house. It was a weird feeling not having Jenna by my side. While she is still perfectly capable she’s heading into into her well earned retirement years and Texas is stepping up to the plate and killing it. For right now they will be switching off accompanying me to events. 😊

Just a reminder that I was previously operating through my bussiness as Heartland Canine Training but I am now working as a trainer at Hidden Acres Dog Resort in Mulvane, KS so this page has been rebranded to Nicole the Dog Trainer. I will continue posting photos/videos of my dog training journey. 😊

Your dog should only be off leash if you have a reliable recall and you can keep them close to you when passing others on leash. If an owner has their dog off leash and it approaches an aggressive dog on leash and leads to an incident than the owner who allowed the off leash dog to approach is the one at fault. 🐕

Lincoln is continuing to learn impulse control. Here he is learning to sit for the toy rather than command bark or jump up. It’s a simple, but effective exercise. I also took the opportunity to work on his “drop” command because he can get a bit possessive over his toys so it’s really important for him to give up the toy on command. 🐶🎾 #heartlandk9training #cavalierkingcharlesspaniel #dogtraining

Super proud of my personal dog, Texas. We were able to get up to six weave poles in our training. I’m using a new (to me), but proven method called Weaves 2x2 and it is been so fun learning this method. Texas will eventually be doing 12 weave poles as that is what he will need to compete at a higher level but this is a huge bench mark for our agility training. 😃

I am soooo proud of Rocky and his family. When they called me they were having trouble controlling him and communicating effectively. They have put in the work and he has come so far! We are at a park with his favorite little humans running around and confidently staying calm in a down. Getting him to this point took time and commitment but having a dog the whole family can enjoy is 100% worth it! #heartlandk9training #dogtraining

I posted a picture or Roxy a while back. Her parents have completed our Best Dog program. She still gets a little excited when strangers pass by but she is learning to stay calm when saying hi. She’s doing great with loose leash walking and sitting when they stop. Her parents want to be able to take her lots of places with them and they are well on their way to having a well behaved dog no matter where they go!#heartlandk9training #dogtraining #greatdanemastiff

🐩🐩Let’s talk dog introductions! Dogs meeting other dogs can vary drastically depending on the situation and the dog. Here I have Derby the Poodle meeting Mulligan the mini Goldendoodle. I know these dogs decently well as they have both boarded with me separately. Derby can come on strong with new dogs and be a bit overwhelming and present some “rude” behaviors which is why he is on leash in the video. Mulligan is a social dog but is not a fan if they get in his face and are a bit on the “rude” side like Derby can be. So for now I am only letting them be together while I can supervise them and keep Derby under control so Mulligan doesn’t feel as though he needs to control the situation himself. As you can see my two dogs are able to roam freely as they get along with both dogs just fine. Proper dog/dog introduction is very important and can make a huge difference in preventing it escalating into a fight. #heartlandk9training #dogbehavior #dogtraining #poodle #goldendoodle

This summer Jenna and I have taken our agility training back to some basics. The directionals are going to help me give her better, clearer instructions when she’s out in front of me on the course. This is our third session working directionals and she’s picking it up nicely! Texas is coming along great in his training. It is never too early to start training. He is almost four months old and we have been training since day one. It takes commitment and dedication but it is 100% worth it.

She loves to get toys out but I always clean up after her so I decided to change that. 😆

Mike called me because he didn't want his dogs to chew up stuff if they put a pool in their backyard because they kept the dogs outside most of the time because they were such a pain to have inside. What started as that turned into Mike being able to take both his dogs for a walk peacefully as well as the dogs being able to be inside and be well behaved and now Mike and his family can enjoy their dogs inside and out! This took time, work, and consistency but I think it's safe to say it paid off. 😄
