Looking for the purrfect way to wind down, make progress on your TBR, and hang out with some adorable cats? Join us for Purrs & Pages – a cozy, cat-filled silent book club held the last Friday of every month from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM! 🕯️✨

Here’s how it works:
📖 BYOB – Bring Your Own Book
🐱 Read in one of our comfy cat sanctuary suites, each home to our sweet feline friends
🧺 Bring your own blankets, snacks, and Bluetooth devices (for quiet ambient music or audiobooks)
👯‍♀️ Share a suite with a friend if you’d like!
🍽️ Donations appreciated: We kindly ask (but don’t require) a donation of one bag of cat food to support our furry residents 💛

⚠️ All suites use walnut-based cat litter – please be aware if you have nut allergies.

Spots are first come, first served and space is limited — we have six cozy suites available, so come early to grab your spot and settle in!

Buckee - Parvo Pup Update 🐾

I brought Buckee home from VESH, and let me tell you, I’ve bought more food for this little guy in the last day than I have for my husband and me all week….anything to find something he’ll eat. Thankfully, the diarrhea has slowed down today, and he’s been drinking a little water since home. Syringe feeding baby food and Pedialyte yesterday helped get us through without being dehydrated.

Throughout his hospital stay, I visited him daily. Not just to advocate for his care, but so he knew he wasn’t alone…that someone was fighting for him, just like you would for any family member in a hospital. Since he’s been back, I’ve had the support and guidance of Dr. Adair at Solomon’s Vet, where he was diagnosed. With parvo, there’s no single playbook, you just keep trying. Trying and hoping.

I’m beyond grateful to Beauties and Beasts for stepping up for Buckee. There was never a question of “Is it worth it?” The answer was always yes. Even though we haven’t raised enough funds to cover the cost of his care, they still backed saving him without hesitation.

Buckee should’ve been a fast flip…he has multiple applications lined up. I knew he wouldn’t be with me long. But his story didn’t unfold the way we expected. We’re here to love him thru this.

He had one round of vaccines at the shelter and wasn’t due for his second round yet. Then, the symptoms started, just a lack of appetite. He tested positive for parvo the next day and was sent home with meds because it looked like a mild case.

But two nights later, everything changed and he was critical.

Solomon’s took him in and stabilized him through Saturday. Then he was transferred to VESH for weekend care: NG tubes, IV fluids, fresh plasma, f***l catheter….he’s shaved nearly everywhere. He’s been through so much.

When they said he could come home, I went straight there. He’s not “all better” he’s just strong enough to be supported at home. It’s scary when they’re still not eating or drinking well. You’re constantly watching, trying anything that might work. This morning, though… he perked up. He ate hamburger, softened kibble, and the canned food he liked before getting sick. He’s resting now with blankets and pads layered on the couch and cuddling with a little stuffed hippo that belonged to Mr. Bones, another senior foster we lost earlier this year. It felt right to pass it along to Buckee.

It’s been a whirlwind of cleaning, caring, syringe feeding, hoping, and loving.

Please consider donating if you can. Parvo care is expensive, and we need support. Buckee is living proof that it’s worth it.

We’re not out of the woods yet, but today? Today feels like hope. I’m ready to have my ornery baby shark back. 💙🙏

‼️💔 STILL NO LEADS, SLOWLY MAKING PROGRESS ❤️‍🩹 ‼️

This boy came in toward the end of April after being abandoned by his owners at a grooming facility under false identity. With nowhere to go and no way to contact his previous owners he was brought into the shelter to serve his stray hold and begin looking for a new family but sadly he was just too terrified, shut down and afraid to even be handled by volunteers for a video or dog testing. He has slowly begun to trust and has started coming out of his shell, but he still needs a gentle leader to help show him the way. Local volunteers have been working with him on his leash skills and visiting to socialize with him and he has finally been able to get on leash and walk into the building! This is a huge step forward for a dog once so scared he wouldn’t leave his outdoor run. He still does better outside and seems to be more relaxed there leaving volunteers to wonder if he may have been an outdoor dog previously.

He has had no leads and no interest as he continues to wait at Ponca City Animal control for a fresh start at life. Due to his fear he would do best if pulled through a rescue, but is eligible for adoption to an experienced owner. He would not be a good starter dog for an inexperienced owner and may do best in a home without young children due to his nervous nature. He will take time and patience to become a member of the family, but we know he is worth every second.

WICHITA STRAY SEEKS NEW FOREVER HOME 🏡🙏

Friends, we are sharing this post for a fellow animal advocate who has gone above & beyond to do what's best for this boy- keeping him out of the deadly shelter system! They have held onto him since January trying to find his previous owners or a new forever family and have had no luck! Louie is dog friendly, but unfortunately their resident dogs are not! The stress of being kept separate and extended time in his crate has started to wear on Louie and he is really needing a new home soon. 😢

Louie was found on January 9th off Harry and Meridian in Wichita, KS. No collar, no chip, but already neutered. He is a brindle husky mix, approx. 2 years old, loves car rides, walks great on a leash, seems to be dog friendly, and is a giant goofball once he gets comfortable. Louie has some separation anxiety when left alone and gets antsy in his crate but will still go in easily on command. Louie would make an excellent adventure buddy, the dog you can take everywhere with you, your Instagram adventure dog. 🐶🐾

Beauties and Beasts is a state-licensed 501(c)(3) death row rescue located in Wichita, Kansas. We do not discriminate against breed, age, medical needs, or behavior. We love ALL animals and breeds the same.

Since our founding in October 2014, we have been able to save the lives of over 2000 death row animals, we have also been able to network out over 1100 animals to other rescues. We are a completely 100% volunteer run rescue, we also rely on 100% donations from our followers and supporters to carry out our mission to save animals in our community.

Our purpose is to rescue death row animals from the shelter and in our community and place them in foster homes where they can receive the care and training needed to become family pets. Our main mission is to change these animals’ worlds one rescue at a time. Another large part of our mission is to be a voice for animals in need throughout our community and we are proud to say we have been able to make an impact on the streets of our city as well.
