Devon is wearing a light fill rug instead of a sheet because we’re looking at mid/low 30’s tonight! He’s a typical thin skinned Thoroughbred as well as my pampered young c**t, so I keep him snug and warm. He’s so full of personality and keeps me on my toes with his playful antics. I’ll get some photos of him working in the driving surcingle soon! He’s coming along quite nicely with his training.

Devon is really enjoying daily turn out. He’s all Thoroughbred and can really gallop but he’s comfortable now in a larger area and has settled in nicely. He’s always let me catch him from Day One which is a relief lol. We’re moving into ground driving now so turning and stopping will be easier when I get on him. He’s a typical three year old, full of energy with a short attention span but always willing to try and figure out what I’m asking. He’s such a nice minded c**t with a great personality, he makes me laugh everyday with his antics!

My security camera snagged me on my phone calling in contractors for the next phase of work on the Little House. This was before 10 am and I had already fed, turned out, cleaned pens and groomed my horses, done the final check on a tax return and sent out for signature, measured out a bunch of stuff in the Little House to finalize framing and doors, run a payroll for a client. At least my many jobs are often outside, on my ranch and best of all involving my horses! ❤️

Got Devon all fitted to one of my saddles and there were a few issues (as all track horses have memories of what saddling means) but we worked through each situation with calm and consistency. He really wanted to be quiet after the initial bucking and scooting lol-I actually had to encourage him to trot the last bit.
So for those interested, he’s tacked in the saddle I rode in the majority of my European Grand Prix Jumper years and later years back in the U.S. Oh it’s had billets replaced as they ripped out over those huge fences a couple times but most of the saddle is original and some 50 years later still in fine condition.
That brown western style square pad was all the rage along with full chaps, docksiders and rugby shirts for schooling attire. I’ve held onto it all this time.
I thought it only fitting that at now 67 I keep my tack traditions of training young Thoroughbred c**ts these many years! Take care of your quality tack and it really will last forever.

Here is Gus his very first time in the Pessoa system. All the ground driving I do with him created a nice trust and understanding as I got him hooked up and adjusted. This is a great device for strengthening the top line when you’re getting ready to fit up again or after an injury requiring stall rest. Not too long at a time and not more than 2-3 times a week to start. It’s also helpful for tightening up those upward canter transitions from the trot and back down as the horse maintains the length over the top line from poll to tail and hock engagement. But don’t do that until he’s quite fit and mentally ready! Gus has this very loose and I’m pleased he went right to stretching. ❤️Gus on the other hand is not pleased because he knows it’s time to get back to serious work. I gave him a cookie to help with the sting of his realization 😂
