Everyone loves the idea of being a fishing charter captain.
“Must be nice, just fishing for a living.”
Let me break that illusion for you. I don’t get to fish for a living. Everyone else fishes while I work.

That 6+ hour trip?
It’s actually 10-12 hours of real work. I get up at 4:00am, haul the boat, fuel up, purchase and load ice/drinks, prep all the gear, prep the bait, guide the trip, take care of clients while guiding the trip, load and secure the boat, clean out the boat, rearrange gear for next day, drive home, clean the boat again, re-stock supplies, re-rig the rods and gear, answer messages from tomorrow’s clients and others, then plan the next day’s trip. Do it all over again.

That $500 you see?
After gas, bait, insurance, maintenance costs, tackle loss, gear wear/tear, licenses, cleaning supplies, and various other expenses……you’d be very surprised at what profit is left, before taxes.

People question the price but never see what’s behind it. The 4 a.m. alarms. The sunburns. The bad weather. The engine repairs. The electronics repairs. The days where the fish don’t cooperate and the clients still expect a miracle.

I love this job, but this ain’t a hobby. It’s a grind. It’s a passion you have to truly love to keep doing it.

You’re not just paying for a boat ride.
You’re paying for experience, hard earned knowledge, and someone willing to carry the weight of the entire trip on their shoulders, no matter what.

Remember…….it only looks easy from the dock. 😉

Had Chris, Tyler and Jim from Ohio out with me the last couple of days chasing cats on the Ohio and Mississippi. The bite was slow and we put fish in the boat but definitely not the numbers we are typically used to. Hopefully it will pick up soon. Thanks for coming down guys!

Our Story

My passion for catfishing all started about 45 years ago. Almost every Sunday after church and lunch at my grandparents house, the whole family would load up and head out and fish for cats along the banks of the Mississippi River for a few hours. My grandpa taught me a whole lot about catfishing and jumpstarted my love and passion for chasing those big blues. Over the past 45 years that passion has grown steadily year after year and has developed into a love of teaching and showing others how to enjoy the sport of catfishing as much as I do. Honestly, I get just as much or even more enjoyment out of seeing someone landing a big cat that I put them on versus landing one myself. Hooked On Cats Guide Service was born out of that love and passion. We love catfishing and all it encompasses. We live for this....and would love to share our passion for catfishing with others in a fun, safe, family friendly environment. We offer guided catfishing trips on the Mississippi, Ohio, Tennessee and Cumberland Rivers.
