Teamwork makes the Dream work

Business is booming! We continue to edit, develop, and add to the team, but now seems like a great time to introduce everyone. In case you ever wondered, here is how the team is made up-First and foremost, the foundation of everything....Julie and Dawn. This dynamic and passionate duo met while working in the pet services industry, albeit in a much different culture than the one we currently enjoy. A friendship developed as the two worked side by side at several NKY locations. Seeing the “one size fits all” model where profits come before anything else did one thing if nothing else-It cemented a desire to do things differently, to value each and every dog as the manifestation of true loyalty and love in the owner’s life. The bond between canine and human is deep, and it deserves the care and attention to the finer details that Julie and Dawn are known for. Striking off in the unknown and going into business for themselves was mildly terrifying, to say the least! With the support and encouragement of their families, Julie and Dawn formed Furry and Fabulous, LLC in the Fall of 2017. With a ton of sweat equity and crash courses in plumbing, accounting, and more under their belts, Furry and Fabulous opened to the public on December 1st, 2017. The first months flew by as business expanded and our clientele base grew. Word of mouth is the most powerful advertisement for any small business, and we are so mindful of that. We celebrate and treasure every positive review left for us! Rest assured we treat your dog with the utmost respect and best loving care possible. As Julie and Dawn got busier and busier, working from daybreak late into the night became the norm. Exhausted, they quickly came to the conclusion that this was not what they wanted from owning their own business! In order to bring some balance to their lives, hiring employees had to be the next step. What a daunting enterprise-from Worker’s Comp insurance to withholding taxes and having a payroll to meet each week to the really important stuff like...OMG how are we going to find someone we are compatible with? Someone who works hard and isn’t afraid to pick up dog p**p and doesn’t mind going home every night literally COVERED in dog hair who also must be intuitive enough to communicate with our customers, represent our “Furry and Fabulous” brand well, and of course, share our passion for dogs?

Kate joined the team in June 2019 and quickly started learning what makes Furry and Fabulous so special. There were days when the phone never stopped ringing, and within a couple weeks of Kate starting, the schedule was solidly booked with appointments 6-8 weeks out. Julie and Dawn were still working those late nights trying to accommodate every customer who wanted to get their dog in, but there were potential customers who chose to go elsewhere rather than wait. Kate was trying to help with bathing and drying, brush-outs, and learning as much about grooming as she could, but the front desk and answering the phone took up a big chunk of her time. A fourth person was needed-someone who could focus on bathing and prepping and walking and clean-up. Shay joined the team in August and business continues to flourish. Furry and Fabulous celebrated 2 years in business in December 2019! Dawn and Julie began to focus on growth, training and continuous education, streamlining expenses, optimizing schedules and maybe, just maybe-Taking a vacation. The Furry and Fabulous Team continues to grow and now consists of Julie, Dawn, Kate, Shay, Natasha, Sydney and possibly an additional part-time apprentice starting soon.

All of these unique and very different personalities working together in a small space can get hectic! There are days we get on each other’s nerves and days when the dogs are less than cooperative, but in the end we all realize how very lucky we are to spend our days here. A bad day at Furry and Fabulous is better than the best day at some of our old jobs! Thank you for taking the time to read this little bio. See you soon!

Just a quick note to introduce our two newest team members-As many of you know we re-opened in May and have been busy ever since! So busy that we were able to bring on a few new faces. Our team now includes Diana at the front desk and Madison and Meridith in the grooming rooms! This helped us to cut down on waiting times for pet parents trying to schedule grooming appointments. It is so energizing to an established team when someone with different perspective and experiences joins in the fray! We are now in the process of streamlining schedules and workloads to fully optimize our strengths. We are so excited to see what the future holds for Furry and Fabulous, whether it means moving(again!) to a larger space or opening a second location to expanding our current space(sorry Minutemen Press!) One thing is certain...we owe all of our continued success to our awesome clients. Thank you!
