During my decades with horses, I frequently was asked, "What is your definition of a good horse". My answer was always the same, "A good horse is light in the mouth, light on the neck, light in the ribs and light on its feet plus possesses a soft, trainable mind.", until recently. A middle-aged customer, seeking another Jana horse, told me her gelding is lazy. I was shocked. The mare is known for producing versatile athletes that have won in a number of arena and show ring events. I apologized. "Oh no", she responded. "I trail ride, and many times alone. He is so safe. He suits me just fine. That is why I am here". The "light bulb" clicked on! I realized all those years I was defining "good horse" for me. I now have a new definition of a good horse. A good horse suits the owner's purpose. She bought three young horses. Thanks so much on both counts!

Another high-quality ranch-versality stallion prospect. This one is a horse of a different color, but of the same high quality. Sired by Jana Whiskey Blues, this c**t's dam carries the genes of Colonel Freckles and the King Ranch program. He has the beautiful foundation-type head of his sire and dam, the athleticism of his sire and the muscling of his dam. We've included a photo of his dam to show her quality. When evaluating a stallion prospect, we follow my father's advice, "It takes a good c**t to be a great gelding, but if you geld him, he won't sire them". Typical of a Hancock-bred foal, this c**t, will have the size, the disposition, the solid foot and bone, and muscling to be and to sire ranch-versatily horses. His dam is a Jackie Bee bred mare with outcrosses on Flit Bar and Bar Flit and the great cutting horse sire, Poco Bueno, all great foundation, ranch-versatility horses. Our latest arrival early this morning, May 17. Just a few hours old, she displays athletic coordination and great color, possibly a grullo and a roan for sure.
