Please join us for a celebration of life for Nancy this Saturday, September 7th at Fairview Church in Williamsburg, PA. Reception will start at 10:00am and the services will begin at 11:00am.

Following the service, lunch will be served at a reception at C&MA in Williamsburg, start it 1:00pm.

Please come join us and share memories to help us celebrate the life of a truly amazing woman.

Student Nates first time starting a c**t. Each is gaining trust in the other. We offer this red dun roan quality stallion project for sale because he is closely related to our mares. Sired by Jana Whiskey Blues, out of Jana Sunny Dee Lite, this c**t has both cutting and ranch type horses in is pedigree. He has the quality disposition of the sire and dam.

We’d like bring attention to a couple things considering we’ve been unable to share this year’s foals until now.

As some of you may know, Nancy Ashman(the NA in JANA) has been battling cancer for approximately 8 years. Over the last several months, her health has taken a turn and has been unable to continue with doing things like all the horse/foal photography seen on the page. We’ve finally been able to catch up and would like to share with everyone our current foal crop.

Two posts will be made, one with younger photos and the next consisting of current photos.

We kindly ask one thing of anyone interested in purchasing a JANA horse! Phone calls are a lot easier for my father (Jack) to handle versus using messenger. He’ll gladly do it, but the keyboard isn’t as easy to use as much anymore.

We greatly appreciate everyone’s support over the years and especially now considering the path we are on. Thank you!

Lyndon Zook, Jana Ebony and Ivory and I had a wonderful Sunday afternoon. Lyndon asked to learn the finer points of starting and training young horses. We had the perfect but difficult two-year-old, very attractive filly. Lyndon waited until winter faded. His drive took him through snow country. The distance involved and the weather limited Lyndon to only three Sunday sessions. During those sessions, he learned the importance of and the subtle use of round penning to gain dominance and control. The filly quickly learned to submit to Lyndon. This past Sunday, he reviewed the subtle techniques, saddled her and allowed her to walk off, no spook, no buck. She moved in a relaxed manner, displaying a soft, athletic stride and a lightness in the face. Rather than scare her, we decided to our next saddling to sit on her. She is an outstanding filly. Lyndon did an excellent job. He is a motivated, intelligent young man, the qualities all teachers enjoy in a student. Given quality horses to start, he will do well.

Jana Patches of Blue (pending). We saved our best for last. JA and NA agree she is our top filly of 2023 and possibly one of our top fillies in our 60 year career. The sorrel is our top c**t of 2023. The filly's sire is Hitch and her dam is Jana B Sharp, Whiskey's full sister. After a career as a saddle horse, she will produce outstanding foals. We offer her only because of our ages. During my decades with horses, I frequently was asked, "What is your definition of a good horse". My answer was always the same, "A good horse is light in the mouth, light on the neck, light in the ribs and light on its feet plus possesses a soft, trainable mind.", until recently. A middle-aged customer, seeking another Jana horse, told me her gelding is lazy. I was shocked. The mare is known for producing versatile athletes that have won in a number of arena and show ring events. I apologized. "Oh no", she responded. "I trail ride, and many times alone. He is so safe. He suits me just fine. That is why I am here". The "light bulb" clicked on! I realized all those years I was defining "good horse" for me. I now have a new definition of a good horse. A good horse suits the owner's purpose. She bought three young horses. Thanks so much on both counts!
