I got a chance to get out and run a track with Piper today. She is really starting to come along nicely.

-250 Meters, Multiple Turns and Changes of Terrain-

At about 1:00 she picks up the track from a free search

1:50 her intensity picks up and she's hot on the trail

2:30 she comes out of the wood-line and really digs in!

Hunting season is right around the corner. If you are wanting a game tracking dog please send me a message.

Give me about a week and you will have a strong foundation to track any game you take this year!

Puppy Training 101.

For my Christ Chapel crowd, here is the video of the puppy I am currently boarding. She is approximately 8-9 weeks old and shows just how much a puppy can learn in just a few days.

I cover a lot in this video and work through multiple different tasks. If you have any questions please put them in the comments and I will do my very best to answer them.

Continue working all of these tasks this week. The pallet is a powerful foundational exercise that I will go into further in the coming weeks. Your dog should never want to come off of it because its so reinforced.

Lastly, Send in those puppy names!!!

Christ Chapel! Here is the pallet video I promised. Keep working that foundation of luring and shaping! The pallet is such a powerful tool to assist your canine to gain focus while training with you. Later it will become your go to when you just want the dog to relax so you can relax.

A few minutes per day will make a huge difference!

Also be on the lookout for a video to introduce the recall. I just so happen to have a puppy at my home right now that doesn’t even know her name. Perfect opportunity to demonstrate how I introduce the recall and work through some issues.

Christ Chapel week 1 homework.

Intro to the verbal mark “Yes”.

I highly recommend this is how you feed your dog for no less than the first week. Although somewhat time consuming, this process will create an association of you as the sole source for food and the dog will begin to focus on what you are asking them to do. You will be amazed what a few sessions will do in terms of the dogs focus.

You’re goal this week is to have the dog learn how to “lure” which is simply following your hand and to charge the verbal mark of “Yes”.

Lastly, remember the classical conditioning model of bell->food. We are just replacing the bell with the word YES! Ensure you are keeping the verbal mark and delivery of food in the correct order.

Training Week 3 Video

Staying when a door is opened......something I hear a lot of owners complain about as an area of stress!!

This approach is taking what you've already taught the dog to do and starts to become a practical application for useful behaviors.

If you work with your dog enough you will find endless applications for the pallet and how to condition desired behaviors. This is just one example.

Christ Chapel Dog Training Group!!!!

Training Week 2

Intro to the pallet. The pallet is a powerful tool to train your dog at home. The pallet will have so many uses that can transfer to real life events once its a staple of the dogs training program.

Ever needed your dog to go lay down while you answered the door? Send them to the......you guessed it.......pallet! Thats just one simple example. The sky is kind of the limit here.

It also is a great way to clearly teach and condition behaviors such as the stay from a stable position. You will see me begin the stay command with my puppy Piper.

Piper working on some casting. Tonight we focused on left-back and right over. She is still solely on food reward to a pallet for casting but by the time she is ready for the forced retrieve she will be way ahead of the game!!
