From Starry Skies: It may be a cold and gross day outside today, but all of us at the rescue are having a great day!

Last week, we were called about two animals needing placement, a Morgan gelding, and a mini donkey. Both aged, but had been well taken care of and their owners needed help - one in the hospital and the other overwhelmed and unable to physically do farm work. We drove over to pick them up, and upon meeting the Morgan gelding, I thought about Sue.

One of our repeat adopters, Sue, had had a 'special request' out for us for the last several years - a registered Morgan, one who may be able to show again one day. Well, this guy fit the bill. I sent her pictures of him and mentioned the mini donkey off handedly (as in, they'd come together) she asked for both of their papers.

I'll be honest, I rarely look at papers. It usually doesn't help the horse much beyond just that being registered is a plus. So I didn't look closely when I sent her a copy of both of their papers. Thankfully Bridget is a bit more detail oriented than I am, and she noticed something odd. The mini donkey had been bred by Sue, 26 years ago!

Today, I dropped off both of them to their new (and old) forever home. It is quite the coincidence - but the perfect one.
Happy adoption day boys!

From M&MS FARMS: We couldn't be happier to have Karma/Pancho back with us. And my heart needed a Morgan. Thank you, PooBear for joining us.

Remember Phoenix? Our one and only Mustang. Captured by helicopter and ATV in Nevada. And that's about all we know of her background.

She came into our life 2-1/2 years ago, because she was deemed dangerous with people. The Rescue she was in wanted her gone. They approached me about taking her.

I spent time with her at Starry Skies where I watched the sole person who could work with her show me the proverbial "ropes". We negotiated a training agreement. And that very same day, they brought the young mare to the FARM.

Our journey began. We renamed her Phoenix (with her help in choosing the new name) - significant of new beginnings. She destroyed fences. Strongly disliked having her hooves trimmed. She'd pin her ears; threaten to bite or kick. Disliked being around people. So we said: "It's all on Phoenix time."

We showed her the respect she deserved. We developed mutual trust and respect.

The progress Phoenix has made is shown in these pictures. Two little ones, on the ground in her pen, reading to her. And Phoenix is fully engaged.

Keep on keeping on, Phoenix. We are SO proud of you! You are proof positive of why Rescue and Sanctuary remain our passion. We make a difference!

It was an honor and a privilege to join everyone at Our Savior Lutheran Church for their annual Living Nativity this past Saturday. Our 15th year with them!

I couldn't have done it without Team M&MS: Mike, Angel, Laney, and Zoe. With love to and blessings on our special donkeys: Duke, Calliope, and Shady.
