We have had a successful duckling delivery!! We are selling out of eggs nearly every day - but have honey and herbs for sale in the store. I am around through the weekend and happy to show folks these cuties. They are Rouen ducks. We have a new duck coop coming and the hope is to have them settle in for three seasons safely at the small pond. The goats are still a pain, but people seem to enjoy seeing them too. They are outside most days - in a pen they can’t escape. My youngest daughter, Sarah, is home from grad school for the summer and happily helping on the farm - a nice break from social work! I am actively looking for the right fit for the fall. As cute as these ducks are, retiring from my day job isn’t happening for a few years!

On TUESDAY 12/5 from 2-4 pm we will be hosting a Holiday Open House. All attending educators will leave with a holiday themed potpourri pouch. We will have a short presentation & announcement regarding our new partnership with Bootstrap Compost. Learn about food waste composting & the alignment to MA curriculum standards, field trip opportunities on composting, potpourri gift making for the holidays, or hands on, age appropriate activities with our rescue animals. And you can always buy fresh duck or chicken eggs! (Great for making fresh eggnog!) falalalalala

I was determined to do a long blog update and post today … but for the billionth day, work, kids, errands & life got the better of me. However, I did get these early morning photos! My favorite time on the farm. And today, with the heavy frost, it was especially beautiful and tranquil. The animals were all snug in the barn and we are excitedly preparing for both some upcoming school field trips and …. New rescue arrivals!! Stay tuned. Pre-Thanksgiving delivery of two sweeties who have been needing a new home ….

A lot going on at the farm - read my blog post!

Fall has always been one of my favorite seasons on the farm. With our stunning views of the Taconic Range and the sun's movement further north, we get gorgeous foliage and even more beautiful sunsets. And the pace of work starts to slow just a bit as the grass (and weeds!) grows more slowly. It seem...

Todays offerings! We made two bunches of instant salad, including different types of lettuce, parsley, kale, arugula, mustard greens and radishes! A few bunches of lettuces, bunches of parsley, kale and mint, radishes, and of course eggs! Lemon is our custard flavor, drive up today and say hi to the ducks while you’re here 🌻🌸✨🐴🦆🐤

This may be why our eggs, baked goods (have you tried Sarah’s chocolate chip cookies?) and frozen custard taste so good! If you get a slight hint of watermelon …

For most of the summer, the “store” at the farm will be packed with student activities - but my daughters helped set up our myriad products for a pop-up sale this weekend! Honor system and cash only. Calvin and Klein are in their dream home, a family farm where they will get so much love and attention! They don’t like hanging out in fields, in any bad weather, or being alone frankly! They craved human attention and lots of it. We decided it was better for them to be somewhere where human interaction was at a max! After a three hour ride, these good boys are home. Our first successful (so far!) adoption. ❤️

While “mom” is away, the rest of us play! we welcomed Daisy and her little goat friend Remy to the farm this week, we are already loving the female energy, and so are the boys who are more than eager to meet these cute girls!
Yesterday Douglas and Sue and I went to visit 3 elementary schools in north adams to tell 5th and 6th graders about our program over the summer. I was only wrangling ducklings (as you can see here it was horrible 🤣) and I watched as Doug and Sue engaged these kids quickly! Sue had them playing games which brought lots of laughter among the students, and Doug had kids fully engaged learning to turn screws and hammer. All I had to do was pull a duck from a box to grab the kids’ attention! We hope to engage and teach 20 5th and 6th graders this July, the ducks will be way bigger but the minis will remain as short :)

If you were around Cobbs Corner in Canton this morning, you may have seen a calf crossing the street to the Starbucks. This was, in fact, one of our new calves that managed to find a way through the fence. Thanks to Sharon Police Department officers Demeris and Simon, we were able to safely round him up and bring him back to the farm. When asked why he snuck out, he replied simply that he needed a real cup of coffee, not that stuff we have in the kitchen. Typical New Englander...
