🎉Well written by Megan Moore!🎉
Couldn’t share the video/post directly but really wanted to convey the message.

“I’ve always said that the smartest equestrians among us are the amateurs who board their horses. On the coldest days of the year, they can sip warm coffee from their warm offices and text the barn staff “thanks for all you do, here’s a Starbucks gift card for taking care of fluffy out in the Artic blizzard.”

But here’s the thing, most boarders never give their barn that thank you or that appreciation. It’s not intentional, everyone has their own problems and stresses and a million things going on in life. But our industry is on the verge of crisis with boarding barn owners walking away left and right, exhausted and fed up and underpaid and under appreciated.

Don’t get me wrong, this isn’t about my own life—we sold our boarding barn in 2020 after 18 years in the business and have a very different business model these days—-but having been on both sides of that experience, I really want to see these phenomal people in our industry thrive and succeed. It’s critical for all of us in the horse industry.

Somewhere out there, your boarding barn owner or team at the barn is doing some serious MacGuyver stuff this week, like pick axing water troughs and creating makeshift ice fishing nets out of hay nets or feed scoops, and flying horse kites across parking lots made of ice while wearing 20 layers of clothing.

If you’re a boarder, take a moment to thank your barn owner and barn staff in this delightful weather. Bring them coffee or send them a gift certificate or buy them a heated vest or write them a nice note or tip them for Christmas. This is the season that makes the strongest among us question their professional choices and we all really, really want them to stay in business.

Our entire industry needs to celebrate the phenomenal men and women who take care of the animals we love so much….

So to all my friends out farming in this delightful weather this winter…. In case you haven’t been told this today, thank you for all you do!”

-Megan and other countless barn managers

💥NOTE: I don’t “want” anything for me!
I want help caring for your baby!
I want you to fill supplement baggies, hay nets, provide heated buckets, blankets, write your schedule on requested calendars, come out and groom your horse and account for weather, be on time with board (I must pay lease before the 1st every month…no excuses), etc.
I go above and beyond holding for vets/farrier/chiro.
It’s in the contract to charge but I don’t.
Understand I do it for the “love of the game.”
For the love of the horse.
