Our first class will be Saturdays at 3pm. RSVP/instructor approval is required inquire for details . The basic curriculum for Saturdays class is below . ( more days /classes tbd stay tuned )
Saturdays 3-4 pm
Equine Behavior & Ground Training -Students will gain familiarity with basic equine behavior and training theory while practicing a variety of foundational groundwork exercises.
The program will introduce concepts and exercises designed to give students confident ground handling skills, an understanding of the training process, increased awareness of equine body language and empathy for their nonverbal partners. Topics include unmounted safety, ground handling, equine behavior, training theory.
Students will get an overview of different approaches to training, including positive and negative reinforcement and appropriate use of food rewards. They will learn to identify stress signals in the horse, and develop strategies for helping a horse overcome fear.
Initially students will use the above to halter,lead, groom and basically handle . Ultimately, they will practice basic groundwork skills including leading, yielding, sending, circling, and targeting.
More detailed syllabus and curriculum will be given to participating students.
