Willington Animal Control is the municipal shelter and animal law enforcement department for the Town of Willington, Connecticut.

Willington Animal Control investigates and enforces laws pertaining to animals within town boundaries as well as house stray dogs in its kennel, if needed.

Governor Lamont has activated Connecticut’s Severe Cold Weather Protocol beginning Sunday night 1/19/2025

As you know, we are bracing for an extreme weather event, with brutal cold. Please bring your dogs inside. Connecticut law prohibits tethering dogs outside during extreme weather. Dogs of all breeds are susceptible to frostbite, especially on the nose and footpads. If you see a dog being tethered outside, please have your local ACO or police take immediate action: Tell them that per Connecticut General Statutes 22-350a, dogs cannot be tethered outside during extreme weather for a duration longer than 15 minutes.

It's also too cold for cats and for rabbits in outdoor hutches. (In nature, rabbits are prolific burrowers--they burrow beneath the frostline to avoid extreme temperatures. In hutches, they have no such protection, and can die from extreme weather.) So, bring them in, too!

Remember: If it's too cold for you, it's too cold for your pets!

💥 Luna is home safe! 💥
A sighting came in from Meg and CTDGRV Kyle’s dad James in the morning. CTDGRV Sharon and Kyle set a trap. Luna showed up at the trap and then saw her dad and took a minute and then realized it was him and ran to him!
Thank you to Luna’s family Mark and Wendy, to Meg for allowing a trap on your property, to James and to CTDGRV Sharon and Kyle. Welcome home Luna! ❤️

Missing in Ashford!
This sweet little girl followed the other family dogs and got left behind. She is bigger now than in this photo.

Update 2/14: Adopted Available for adoption: January is an adult, female, who was found approximately 2 weeks ago on Moose Meadow Rd. If she is not claimed by next weekend, she will become available for adoption. For more info, contact Willington Animal Control 860-428-4422

Update: Adopted!!!!! Available for adoption: “Yankee” is an 18 month old, neutered male, Pitty Mix. He is friendly with people and most dogs he has met, we think cats may be too fun to chase. We have only tested him with Angel, through the fence and he loves her. We think possibly a home with one female dog may be ok, multiple dogs and other males may be too much for him to feel comfortable. Yankee is active, playful, would love a fenced yard or someone that hikes/walks regularly. Kids over 10 would be most suitable for his energy level. He’s just a fun dog to have at your side and will make a great companion. Does need some manners training and is fully vetted. Give us a call for more info 860-428-4422

Update: Thank you to Paws For Life CT for taking this guy into their program. Available for placement: “Patrick” is an adult male kitty who came in quite scared but has calmed down quite a bit. He would be a great room mate for someone who is willing to let him learn to trust his person/environment. For more info call Willington AC at 860-428-4422

Available for placement: “Stanley” is an adult, male, kitty who came in terrified and after a few weeks, is now enjoying being pet. We have not yet tried to hold him and we unsure if he will ever be a cuddly kitty like that, but if someone is looking for a feline room mate, this guy may be for you. **Update 11/2: Daisy has been adopted!!** "Daisy" is approximately 1 yr old, female, and very sweet. She came to us from the same place as the others recently placed and sadly she had a pellet/bb shot into her shoulder, so we did have it removed. She had her first set of shots and was tested for FLV/FIV (neg). If you are looking for an INDOOR ONLY kitty and are interested, please give WAC a call at 860-428-4422
