Our gratitude goes out to Brittany and Scott Howerton for sharing their beautiful ranch with us all. Thank you to all the handlers who travelled so many miles to attend this event.

An event like this takes months to plan and couldn't have been done without the tireless efforts of our trial organizers Mary Ann Duffy and Billy Bishop. Additionally behind the scenes so many other volunteers who dedicated countless hours to make this years trial even better than last year.

Howdy,

We are Brittany and Scott Howerton, and we are thrilled to welcome you to the Howerton Oaks Ranch Sheepdog Showcase 2024. We are delighted to open our property for this for a second year.

If you are camping, check-in will be available from 2 pm to 7 pm on January 31st. If you need to do an after hour check in that's okay, just let us know in advance. Scott and I will be there to check you in and assign you a designated camp location. If you plan to arrive after January 31st, please inform MaryAnn so that we can check you in.

For those who are attending as spectators, please follow the road to the left upon entering the ranch. We will have arrows and signs to guide you towards the parking location.

Howerton Oaks Sheepdog Showcase entries are closed. We are very full and appreciate the interest and support.

A few logistical points:

- scratches will not be filled
- running orders will be out soon
- access into site will be open Wed Jan 31 at 2PM. If you are arriving after 7PM, please let us know in advance.
- for campers, the Howerton family will great you at the gate and direct you to your parking spot. You will have the opportunity to pay them in cash $20/night if you have not prepaid or want to add extra days
- gates will open at 7AM and close at 7PM
- checkout time is 10AM Mon Feb 5
- there will be no food truck
- from 27Alternate there will be border collie signs to direct you to the site

Setup of trial field starting, such a beautiful location

The Howerton Oaks Sheepdog Showcase (Feb 1-4) is oversubscribed. To be as fair as possible to all handler / dog teams, we will have to limit entries. The approach will be as follows:

1) Handlers will have to limit individual dogs to 1 class. This affects handlers who have entered in Nursery and another class. We ask that you advise the trial secretary which class you would like to run your dog in if you have entered a dog in more than one class. You will receive a refund for the class you choose not to run.

2) To be able to run all novice classes twice in one day, we will need to limit each handler to running only 1 dog in any 1 class. For example if you entered 2 dogs in Pro Novice, you can run one dog in the morning and a different dog in the afternoon in that class. You will receive a refund for the second entry.

3) A limit of 75 Open dogs can be run in each Open trial. We intend to run Open 1, Nursery 1, Open 2, Nursery 2 over 3 days (Feb 1-3). A random draw has been done for Open handlers with 2 dogs. The 2nd dog is on a waitlist and will be moved to the run list as spaces become available up until running orders are drawn (1 week before the trial). The following handlers are currently on the 2nd dog waitlist. You can run one dog in Open 1 and your second dog in Open 2 and you will receive a refund.

If you sent a digital entry and live in the USA, you must also mail in a entry form and payment before your entry is accepted.
Camping - below is the current list. If you intend to camp or would like to increase the number of nights, please send in the fees ($10 per night) if prepaid. If you do this at the trial site, it is $20/night paid directly to the Howerton Oaks Ranch. Please do not give this to the trial volunteers.

Thanks to all for the support and entries for Howerton Oaks Sheepdog Showcase. At this point, we know that we will unfortunately have to limit entries for the Open class.

- 3rd dogs will not be accepted in Open.
- All handlers will be able to run 1 dog.
- If needed, a lottery will be managed for 2nd dogs, establishing a run list and a prioritized waitlist.
- January 8 is the official refund date, but we would appreciate it if you could advise us as soon as possible if you plan to withdraw.
- Run list and prioritized waitlist will be published on January 9 on both Facebook sites Herding in Florida and Howerton Oaks Sheepdog Showcase - Florida.
- Course instructions will be posted and a very brief Handler meeting for Open 1 will be held at 5:00 pm, Wednesday, January 31, 2024. You can walk the course any time before we begin running at 7:30, Thursday, February 1, 2024
- Order of classes
– Thursday, Friday, Saturday - Open 1, Nursery 1, Open 2.
- If time permits, we will then run Nursery 2 on Saturday. If time is limited, Nursery 2 will be run on Sunday morning with the Ranch 1 class.
- Sunday – Ranch 1, Pro Novice 1, Novice 1, Ranch 2, Pro Novice 2, Novice 2
- There will be no non-compete runs.

Due to the number of runs and limited daylight, measures will be taken to reduce the stress on the sheep, dogs, and volunteers. If your run is lacking progress or significantly off course, management retains the right to politely ask for a retirement.

Save yourself a stamp and envelope by posting in the same envelope if you like. All entries postmarked/received before open date will be marked as received on open date.
