Barnwell County is really ticking all of our ‘small and locally owned’ boxes right now! We received a fresh baked, preservative-free bread delivered yesterday, from Langdale’s Cottage Kitchen . Next week we will pick-up our first raw milk purchase from Boundary Creek Farm! And we can supply farm-fresh flowers in season! What a magical place to call home. 🙌👏

❄️ Snow-kissed blooms at Rivendell Farms! ❄️

Our second snowfall of the season has turned our little corner of the CSRA into a winter wonderland! The flowers may be resting, but the farm is alive with the quiet beauty of snow-covered fields and frosty blooms.

Winter reminds us of the cycles of nature—resting now so we can bloom brighter come spring. Stay cozy, friends, and let us know if you’re enjoying the snow as much as we are!

🌸 Camellias: A South Carolina Winter Staple 🌸

Camellias have been a part of South Carolina gardens since the late 1700s, brought over by European settlers who admired their beauty and resilience. Today, they’re a favorite for their ability to brighten up even the coldest winter days.

One of the best parts of living in South Carolina is that something is always in bloom. From camellias in the winter to vibrant flowers in spring, our gardens never take a season off.

At Rivendell Farms, we love how camellias bring life and color to the garden, even in the dead of winter.

Happy NYE! We have had a wonderful year, and we thank you for the business and support.

Today the girls and their friends found this half-dead mocking bird. It’s named and has a bell around its neck. It also needs your prayers. 🤦‍♀️🙏 It’s name is Chirpy.

Bradley organized his nuts 🔩 and bolts and felt very accomplished about it all.

The girls gardened and played, and played and gardened.

We sure have fun around here, and we hope to do the same in 2025! 🎉🎉🎉 See you next year!

Yesterday, we got a flock of chickens back on the farmette! My heart is full.

Over the past month a predator (a fox or racoon) slowly picked off our flock, two by two. We were chicken-less for about a week, while we figured out the coop’s weak spots, and outfitted a camera system. Bradley fixed up the coop and yesterday, we drove to get one of the most beautiful flocks of chickens we’ve ever had!

Bradley noted that we can’t keep a flock of chickens for more than 2 years, and while it’s sad, and true, it’s life.

Everything loves to eat chicken. Annually, 41.4 BILLION chickens are consumed by the human population. This is the circle ⭕️ of life when you own livestock. You do what you can to protect them, but sadly, life happens, because chickens are yummy, and that is something that cross-species can agree upon.

Brighter days are ahead for this group of birds. Stay tuned for more!

I just couldn’t help myself, I had to create one more time before the end of the year. We bought in the flowers, and foraged for the rest. You can find 3 of the 6, of these bouquets 💐 for sale tomorrow at Accelerator Coffee & Pastry for $30 each. 3 are already sold.

These bouquets smell SO yummy. It’s sure to invite the Christmas spirit into your home for the holiday season.

Please note, the berries and one of the evergreens have thorns on them, so while these scream Christmas, take care they don’t make you scream in pain.

On November 16th we were thrilled to place these flower sprays and arrangements we made. It was our second ever wedding (and the first that we did all on our own).

It was work, and each time we do this we learn a little more about ourselves, our business, and the vase life of certain flowers!

We had to order in focal flowers for this event, but we were able to utilize a ton of our own, farm-grown fillers!

We had some flowers left over from a wedding that we created for this weekend. I will be dropping these fall beauties off at Accelerator Coffee & Pastry tomorrow morning. These burgundy lilies are going to open up so magnificently! $25 each. They include Lilies, mums, mahogany splendor, lemon eucalyptus, and a grass plume.

Yesterday afternoon we shuffled all of our patio plants into their spot for the winter ❄️. It was a chilly morning in SC, and we are glad we made the chore a priority. This place is a dream in the dead of winter. If you can’t find me around the house or yard, check the greenhouse in the coming months!

At the end of last week, we invited Bradley’s dad (Granddaddy) to stay with us. Granddaddy has a brain injury called CTE from too many hits to the head, from playing college football at UGA, in the late 1960s. He has a hard time with his short-term memory. His body, however is in great condition for a late 70 year old, as witnessed in this video! Granddaddy was a phenomenal help in the garden this weekend, running a wheel-hoe and pulling weeds. There is something healing and magical about having 3 generations of a family helping in the garden. 🌱🌱🌱 We pray that you are able to get out in your garden this week. Today was the very first time that we felt like the girls REALLY helped in the garden. We are excited to have more hands in the planting process. We have around 500 more plant plugs to get in the ground this weekend. Many hands make light work!

A Mid-Summer Clean-Up

The cats really complete this video! 🐾🐾🐾 This weekend we planted our zinnias starts. We started these little babies about a week and a half ago. We have been diligently trying to tidy up the garden, but y’all, it’s still so so hot out. Gardening in a South Carolina summer is less than fun. 🫠🫠🫠 We are sorry that you haven’t seen our lovely flowers at the coffee shop, or at the Barnwell Farmers Market, but we are in a transition period. With that being said, we absolutely CAN make something special for you, and we are still taking orders. Please DM us if you need flowers. 💕🙏

Today was an absolute sweat-fest in the garden. I am thankful I wore all these clothes because the sun ☀️ was not kind. I cut back the blooms on our sweet basil today so that we can make PESTO next weekend! I also weeded a bunch and harvested some veggies and sunflowers 🌻. I also ripped out a whole row of spent plants and weeds from our spring garden quadrant, in order to make room for our next round of zinnias! It’s currently raining and we are ever so thankful for HIS mercy. 💕🌧️

We know these low-humidity nights are fleeting as the South Carolina summer descends, so we will enjoy them while we can. Last night we planted more of our ProCut sunflower 🌻 plugs that we grew from seed! It was a dirty and glorious night on the farmette. 🥰

What a lovely weekend it was. Now onto another crazy week in the month of May!

Rain is a good thing! Praise HIM.

Today was a good day. We worked smarter while planting our zinnia starts. We watered and watered some more. This made our Humble Acres Organics compost perfect to plant in. We planted around 225 plants today. We also unloaded the greenhouse and set our patio up. The patio is now a plant paradise. It would be like heaven on these cool spring night, save for the mosquitoes 🦟🩸.
