Alright folks, Announcement time! 😊

Other taxidermists have warned me about this and I made it for a good long time without having to go this route, but moving forward I will be requiring PAYMENT IN FULL when I pull your bird out to mount it.
I take a lot longer to mount a bird than your average commercial taxidermist. I spend hours preening, hours prepping and painting. I use eye rings. I tan my birds. I cast a lot of my own bird heads. If someone, after waiting over a year and a half, bugging me the whole way about it being done or not, suddenly doesn’t have the funds to pick it up when it’s done, that screws me over. It screws my other clients over that have been waiting patiently in line that pick up their birds and pay for them when they are done. I would rather reward those clients and get their birds done first. Moving forward, if I contact you and you are ready to pay, your bird will be done. If you are not ready, your bird will get bumped down the list as is fair.
Also, I will have a one month grace period for picking up your bird. if it’s still not picked up after a month, I will charge $20 a week until it is. (out of town clients or those with prior arrangements, this doesn’t apply to you)
I do understand that stuff happens in life, especially financially, and I’m not do***ng on people if they suddenly can’t afford to pay for their mount. This is simply a measure to protect me, my sanity, my other clients, and my super small house from becoming a bird museum.
My times are taking quite a bit longer. I want to enjoy being with my family. I want to spend time with my hobbies and interests. I am a one person show. I am doing chemo. Im doing fine cancer wise now but that could change at any time and i could tank.
My birds are split into a bunch of parts and processes that take different lengths of time. I cannot turn and burn five birds in a week. I don’t do this to maximize profits or make a living. I do this as an art form. If you have a bird with me and things are taking longer than you’d like, i’ll give you your deposit back and you can take it to someone who is set up to get birds done faster than me. (though most of the good taxidermists I know aren’t much faster or are further out than me.)
If you are patient with me I will treat you well and make you happy.
If you really must have your bird now, you can pay 40% the cost of your mount extra and I will pull it out and start on it tomorrow. Otherwise, be patient. I don’t want to spend the however many years I have left having anxiety over first world problems.
After christmas I will reach out to all my clients individually and touch base. Most of my interactions with everyone are fantastic, and I can’t say enough how thankful I am for your respect for me and my process.

Happy holidays! 🩶🩶🩶🩶

I take in a couple deer every year as an homage to my taxidermy life before birds….

This mulie used the largest form of its kind, and i had to split the septum and make it larger to fit! Fun times…

Hey guys,

I will not be taking any birds in this year aside from swans. Swans are priced at $1600.

If you weren’t already aware, my breast cancer came back as stage four in the spring. I do chemo monthly and it wipes me out for a week or two where i’m unable to get much done. I’m doing pretty well and last scan showed the cancer in my bones shrinking, but the cancer itself is only half the battle and the chemo is the rest. Overall I feel pretty good though and I’m still mounting everyone’s birds beautifully, if not a little slowly.

My wait times are increasing due to this. If you have a bird with me and i told you a year, it might be a year and a half. Later clients might be two years. If you don’t want to wait, I am happy to refund your deposit and return your bird to you. If you are fine with waiting, please be patient and don’t bug me too much, I know you are excited but it gives me anxiety! I’m doing the best I can and I don’t rush through mounts.

It’s so hard for me to tell anyone no, but I have to put my family and health first, and take good care of the clients I already have.

Thanks!

Last of the photos for tonight! I custom casted/sculpted the head for this shoveler…. such a nightmare as they require a lot of fine detail and resourcefulness for making a workable mold….
off to mayo clinic for some expert cancer treatment, and then back to hammer out some geese. ❤️
