Bloat (GDV) in Dogs – A Life-Threatening Emergency! 🚨🐶
Gastric Dilatation-Volvulus (GDV), commonly known as bloat, is a serious and potentially fatal condition that requires immediate emergency care.
Signs of GDV to Watch For:
⚠️ Swollen or hard belly – If your dog’s abdomen looks enlarged or feels tight, don’t ignore it.
⚠️ Unproductive vomiting or retching – Trying to vomit but nothing comes up? This is a major red flag!
⚠️ Restlessness & pacing – Dogs with bloat often appear anxious and uncomfortable.
⚠️ Excessive drooling – Increased saliva production can signal distress.
⚠️ Rapid breathing & increased heart rate – These are signs of shock, which can develop quickly.
⚠️ Weakness or collapse – If your dog becomes lethargic or collapses, get to a vet immediately!
Some large, deep-chested breeds like Great Danes, German Shepherds, and Dobermans are at higher risk, but any dog can develop bloat. If your dog shows any signs, don’t wait—act fast to save their life!
