The Milo Sanctuary is east of Willits and was founded by Director Lynne Tingle in 1994. Milo also has a thriving adoption center, Milo Point Richmond where the majority of our rescues arrive and are adopted from, however the Milo Sanctuary also has new rescues arriving often. As well as providing a safe place for moms and their puppies, and a place for dogs needing a break from a kennel, our Sanc

tuary provides ample space for dogs to be dogs, and semi tame and feral cats to live their lives! In 30 years the non-profit has saved over 45,000 animals from being euthanized in California shelters! To visit the Sanctuary please email, or call and talk to our office and Adoption Manager, Amy, Tuesday through Saturday, as we have a small yet dedicated staff and want to ensure that we can devote full attention to your visit, and make sure you are a good fit for the animal you wish to adopt. The Milo Sanctuary is always in need of volunteers, foster homes, donors and of course loving families looking to adopt! Please contact us if you would like to help!

We celebrate our crazy Queenie getting adopted today!! (Yellow Pug-Frenchie mix)
This whirling dervish, mouthy, charismatic, bundle of energy and mischief met her match!! Kelly and family drove from Plumas Lake excited to meet her, and the dogs and the people all hit it off!
Queenie being a force of nature, beguiling, but a LOT!! So we wish them the best and lots of fun together! And we are thrilled that Queenie finally has her home!! You too can add one more!

Look at this boy!! How can it be he’s the longest resident…. Let’s get him safe!!! Milo Foundation Fosters and Volunteers, Amy Slaughter, Bliss Seiferd

This is MO! Longest resident at your local shelter! To say he’s overlooked is an understatement. Mo is the Alfred to your Batman! He’s the confidant, he’s your friend and your ally. Despite his day-to-day situation
in the kennel life, he’s grounded and hasn’t lost faith in humanity in the face of darkness. He’s easy-peasy-in-the-background living quietly and calmly behind the caped crusader (YOU). He is mild and gentle, he’s dedicated, committed and no one really sees him because he’s OH SO GOOD! Well behaved, compliant… A bulldog-boxer ish mash up in the three year old range. The shelter says he’s cool with other dogs and people. GO GET HIM!

The shelter is FULL.

Happy from Chevelle! 🖤

She is very loving, loves to play, gets along with other dogs, but doesn’t get too wound up. She easily goes off leash and stays right with you. She leans in and wants love.

Does she sound like a pawfect match?

Fill out an application to take the next steps to meet her!

Do we have some GREAT DOGS FOR ADOPTION!!!!
22, yes, TWENTY-TWO new arrivals all spayed/neutered. and highly adoptable!
They have quite a story and they have travelled miles to land here. More on that later….. these are some lucky dogs, ready to be made luckier by landing great homes! A LOT of time and effort has gone into saving these dogs who had nowhere to go and were living in crates in 100+ degree weather…..

We are celebrating our 30th Anniversary on Wednesday, and an extremely generous donor has offered to match the first $10,000 in donations we receive this week! What a way to celebrate!

While I will have a more personal note to share on Wednesday, today I want to explain what we are fundraising for as our anniversary approaches!

Some of you may not know that Milo started at our Sanctuary in Willits. For the first ten years of Milo, I drove animals rescued from rural shelters to the Bay Area every weekend.

Our Sanctuary has grown to an incredible 330-acre property offering great space and walking trails for dogs, housing for cats, a haven for moms and their litters of puppies, and a refuge for older and harder-to-place animals. It is also a home to ducks, pigs, and chickens and has even housed rescued horses, goats, cows, mules, and more!

In honor of our anniversary and the significant impact the Sanctuary has had on our efforts over the last 30 years, we are fundraising for our Sanctuary! With hundreds of animals residing there, the property needs updates to ensure the best care possible for every animal on site.

Specifically, our Barn (which was the first building we constructed after receiving our nonprofit status in 1994) urgently needs updates. This building provides critical housing for moms and babies, new intakes, serves as an infirmary, shelters seniors and animals recovering from surgery, and includes our main office that facilitates our Sanctuary adoptions (close to 300 already this year).
This building truly exists to serve the animals, and the Sanctuary cannot run without it!

As we continue to deal with hotter summers and colder winters, our Barn desperately needs insulation, a swamp cooler, and other weatherizing. Every update we have planned benefits the animals and provides safe, comfortable accommodations!

With this extremely generous matching donation in honor of our anniversary, we will be able to make the necessary updates to ensure Sanctuary animals for years to come have the housing they deserve as they wait to be adopted. However, we cannot make this happen without YOU!

With gratitude,

Lynne Tingle

Our Story

The 283 Acre Milo Sanctuary in Willits was founded by Director Lynne Tingle in 1994. Since then Milo has also opened an adoption center in the bay area, “Milo Point Richmond” (MPR) where the majority of our pets are adopted. In 25 years the non-profit has saved 35,000 animals from being euthanized in CA shelters!

Appointments to visit the Sanctuary need to be set in advance with Sanctuary Management as we have a small yet dedicated staff and want to ensure that we can devote full attention to your visit, and we like to discuss which animals you have in mind first by phone as most of the animals residing at the Sanctuary have some kind of “quirk.”

The Sanctuary is home to many animals who are looking for country homes as well as being a temporary stop for some in need of a break from the kennel environment of our Adoption Center MPR. The Milo Sanctuary is always in need of volunteers, foster homes, donors and of course loving families looking to adopt! Please contact us if you would like to help!
