Rascal is an 11 month old Labrador Retriever who has bilateral elbow dysplasia. He had surgery at Med Vet, shockwave therapy with us, and now he comes in for pool sessions and therapeutic exercise to help him recover.
He's shown here in our SwimEx resistance pool featuring a unique paddlewheel current to give him a good workout.
Rascal swims like a little fish! 🐠 Look at him go!
Lola’s Story
Acute spinal cord injury is common in dogs, usually as a result of intervertebral disc herniation. With severe injury, some dogs never regain feeling in their hind limbs and are referred to as “deep pain negative”. Statistically speaking, we know that prognosis for return to function diminishes the longer a pet goes without improvement.
On January 1st of this year, Lola experienced such an event. She received emergency surgery by the talented team of neurologists at Metropolitan Veterinary Hospital. We and Lola’s owner have been working really hard on getting this sweet girl back on her feet. Rehab is a process that takes time and patience. Lola’s progress has been slow but today was her best day and we’re not giving up on her! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Advice to other pups from Penny who's recovering from bilateral knee surgery....
"Have as much fun as you can while in rehab!" 💕
A cat in an underwater treadmill? You betcha! It's not just for dogs!
Chai is doing "pre-hab" prior to having orthopedic surgery in the future. This not only helps maintain and build her strength, but it also prepares her for post-op rehab.
Look at this sweet girl go! 🐱
Today is International Water Day and Willy is celebrating with a dip in the pool! He may be all Dachshund, but he swims like a fish! 🐠
The underwater treadmill is a highly effective form of treatment for improving strength and muscular endurance, increasing range of motion, neuromuscular re-education, gait training, cardio-respiratory endurance, decreasing compensations, and generalized conditioning. It is an excellent form of exercise for weight loss and for older patients as less body weight in water reduces the stress on joints and bones.
Chewie, the Briard, shows off his skills in the underwater treadmill and he is a very serious working dog!
Swimming is one of the most complete forms of exercise for any animal. It improves overall health by decreasing inflammation, improving conditioning, increasing metabolism, and decreasing pain. Our resistance pool is a great way to accomplish these goals.
Swimming is not only therapeutic....it's fun! Just look at Cali!
Let's raise our glasses and celebrate the victories! {clink} 🥂
