IT’S NATIONAL PET OBESITY DAY! 🐾 Pets come in all shapes and sizes, but sometimes sizes get a little out of hand. That’s why we celebrate today to recognize National Pet Obesity Day to remind our human owners to keep their pets healthy! While it is hard to say no to those precious faces when it comes to food, it’s important to practice discipline for the safety and well-being of our beloved companions. 🖤🐾

What is Dogust? It’s the day when people who have adopted or rescued a dog and don’t know their dog’s birthday get’s to have a day to celebrate their dogs big day!! It’s the dogaversary or universal birthday for shelter/rescue dogs. 🎈🎉. You can celebrate by donating to your local rescue or shelter !
Happy Birthday or may we say Happy Dogust 1st for all pets out there with an unknown birthday but who deserve a celebration of their own! 🎈

Dr. Cailey Vandermark
Veterinarian
Cailey Vandermark DVM, graduated from University of Illinois Urbana Champaigne and completed her degree in veterinary medicine in May 2022. She joined the Terry Animal Hospital family in August 2022. Dr. Vandermark loves to help people and animals in a way that utilizes her problem-solving skills. Dr. Vandermark also specializes in exotics. Her extensive knowledge and expertise with exotic species combine the best of personal and clinical experience. Dr. Vandermark has three wonderful pets, Clint, an 8yr old lab mix, Slytherin a 13yr old Corn Snake and Sabean a 3yr old Leopard gecko that she loves and adores. Some of her interests outside of work include being outdoors, camping, hiking, biking, and bouldering.

Veterinarian
Sarah Blose DVM, graduated from Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1987. She has been practicing at Terry Animal Hospital since 2009. In 2002, Dr. Blose received IVAS certification in Veterinary Acupuncture and is passionate about this integrative treatment. Her other professional interests include surgery, internal medicine, connecting with clients and their families through community education and events.

May 23rd! WORLD TURTLE DAY 🐢 is to raise awareness about the importance of protecting and conserving turtles and their habitats. This is Gussy our first ever Hospital turtle that has now been adopted by our amazing staff Lauren! She is about 38 years old and is thriving! Terry Animal Hospital loves seeing turtles and would love to have ur pet as a family member here!

NATIONAL RESCUE DOG DAY 🐾🐾

May 20th is recognizing all the benefits of allowing a four-legged canine to adopt you into their immeasurably lovable life. 🐶. This day also increases awareness of dogs in shelters! Here are some tips on ways you can help celebrate this day

-Volunteer at your local shelter. Taking dogs for walks, grooming, and giving them plenty of affection improves their socialization 🐾

-Shelters always need donations. Financial donations are always welcome. Most shelters have a list of constant needs, such as blankets, toys, treats, and leashes.

If there is room in your life for a rescue dog, consider adoption and giving one a forever home 🏠 🐶

Spring is here 💐🌷🌸🦟 We always want to keep our furry babies safe! 🐾 so here are some tips for this spring !

1) Make sure to keep lawn products and fertilizers out of reach! They can be very toxic for pets!

2) Keep up with flea and tick preventatives, and heartworm prevention medication this spring!! Many tick products kill the pest before it can transmit Lyme or other tick-borne disease, but you should always still remove a tick as soon as possible.

3) Make sure your pet is vaccinated against Lyme disease ! In certain areas of the country, ticks and Lyme Disease are especially prevalent.

4) Know your outdoor plants 🌱 as spring starts, be aware of outdoor plants and trees that are toxic to animals.

5)Keep Lilies away from cats 🐈‍⬛. Lilies can be very toxic to cats and can cause kidney failure. They typically flower around the spring !

6) Pets can have seasonal allergies, too !
Your pet may be allergic to outdoor allergens such as pollen and grass, so keep an eye out for signs of irritation: constant chewing or licking of the paws, recurring ear infections, and overall itchy and scratchy skin!

7) Keep cleaning products out of reach!! Many cleaning products that are diluted, such as a multipurpose spray or countertop cleaner, could cause many issues ! Make sure to keep them away to keep the furry baby safe!!
