Beekeeping doesn't always go as planned. The swarm we caught with the help of Johnny Dickerson on Easter weekend was a strong and busy hive.

They settled in quickly to their new hive This is what we found inspecting the next weekend.

Lesson - make sure you put the correct number of frames in the box if you want to be able to easily inspect the hive😂😂😂

When bees sense danger, they release an alarm pheromone called isopentyl acetate from a gland near their stingers. This chemical wafts through the air and alerts other bees to be ready to attack. Smoking a beehive masks this pheromone, allowing the beekeeper to safely perform a hive inspection.Jan 24, 2021

It's good to be queen. 👑🐝(Mother of ALL bees in the hive!!!)

The queen bee is a fascinating insect. She is the mother of all the bees in hive, responsible for laying all the eggs that will become female worker bees and male drones. She lives her life inside the hive, attended by worker bees who groom and feed her.

82ºF at Moondance Honey Beez apiary today… well played February, well played. 🐝🍯 The beez are bizzy, bizzy and Liz and I can’t wait to watch them work their magic as the season progresses!
