Finn and Harvey are here to remind you sometimes you just gotta stop and lay in the grass 🌿🌻
As the summer heat ramps up make sure to listen to your dog if they are tired and not push them too far. It’s hard having a fur coat on when it’s hot out!
Try to get your walks in early or in the evening, keep an eye on the temperature (especially if walking on pavement), and bring plenty of water if you’re on an adventure 💧🌞

Finn went from reacting to seeing dogs on leash in the distance to being able to walk with a new friend and greet on leash! 🐾 Reactivity training takes time and practice but if you put in the work and have patience and understanding with your dog, you AND your dog will be happier and stress free on walks 💕

In my training programs, we work on building positive associations with a dog’s triggers instead of punishing their reactions. Once we get the reactivity down, my clients have the option of doing a parallel walk with my dog Molly to help their dog learn that walking near another dog isn’t scary. Molly is great at reading their stress signals and showing them non-threatening body language to make them comfortable. We always go at the dogs pace and don’t force them into anything. We love when they open up and realize they can make new friends!

Josie was used to breed for her first 5 years of life until she was rescued. She came with lots of anxiety and reactivity which is expected. We worked together on learning the world isn’t so scary and build her confidence on walks and meeting new people. We are so proud of her progress and her dedicated owners who have given her a loving home ❤️

Skate Dog Champions! 🏆 This event was so fun to be a part of and all of the dogs did awesome! I trained with Cosmo and his amazing owner for only three weeks and he brought home the gold! 🥇
Libby the cavapoo came in second 🥈
Jeter the bulldog learned that day how to get on a skateboard and came in third! 🥉

Sam is getting real comfy with his muzzle on! Don’t let those sad boy eyes fool you, he’s getting plenty of treats 🍖 Now that he enjoys wearing it, we are increasing the time he wears it and time between giving treats. This gets him comfortable with just wearing it while chilling and coexisting with people around.

Muzzle training can be useful for a variety of different situations! Some examples are vet visits, scavenging and eating unsafe/gross things outside, and in this situation, safety while we work on getting comfortable meeting new people.

It’s important to find the right size muzzle for your dog so it’s comfortable, they can take treats, and allows them room to pant, which regulates their body temperature. Basket muzzles are the only type of muzzle your dog can wear safely for an extended period of time 🐶 This muzzle is a Baskerville size 5.

Very proud of the progress Jax made in just 4 sessions! As a shy and nervous boy, he developed reactivity to people and dogs, as well as being startled by any loud noise outside. We worked on building his confidence and positive associations with his triggers. He can now have less stressful walks and continue to make progress with his owner! 🐶💕

Cash is displaying is Good Boy diploma to make sure Santa brings him extra toys and treats this Christmas! 😊🎁
Cash came to training for his leash reactivity which was fueled by overstimulation and barrier frustration - this means that he got super excited when he saw other dogs he wanted to meet but he felt held back on the leash, unable to get to them, and his frustration displayed as aggression.
Many dogs struggle with this and positive reinforcement training is the best way to get this behavior under control!

Rescue pup in need of a home!
Bodhi is approximately a year old, just under 50lbs. She has been spayed and chipped. She came from Duplin County and was rescued by Second Chance Habitat (an organization in Virginia) this summer. She is a typical puppy- goofy, affectionate, and high-energy. She would do best in a home with a fenced yard and a family that will follow through with her training. Due to her puppy energy, she would do best in a home without small children. A meet and greet would be required if another dog lives in the household. She is currently being fostered in Wilmington, NC.
